no wind

There is a verse in the Bible(revelation) which claims that angels willhold back wind.

IF this happened, and there were no wind, what would happen?

We would all die a horrible death of asphyxiation as the wind of our breath was stilled.

It’d smell a lot better around here.

In the event that Earth’s air circulation was halted in some way, the equatorial regions would become much hotter, and the poles much colder. Winds serve to distrubute the sun’s heat more equably around the planet.

Even more seriously, most rainfall and other precipitation would cease, since this depends on the transport of air masses between regions of evaporation to areas of condensation.

The consequenses, in other words, would be apocalyptic.

If god were not holding each molecule individually in place, I think it would imply a steady-state atmosphere. To get this, the Earth would need to stop spinning, and stop going around the Sun. But I don’t think even that would get it, since you’d still have air currents due to the circulation of air being warmed at the spot right under the Sun. Oh I know - the Sun won’t be there! It would need to either go out, or the Earth would be flung out into space away from the Sun. That would do it.

Nah. Maxwell’s demons would just have to work overtime.

Realistically, the OP’s question can’t be answered. If you posit a supernatural intervention to “halt the wind”, then you could just as easily posit other supernatural phenomena to keep things working smoothly – let’s say legions of fairies wetting the darling grasses with their tears and ice giants thundering out of the North on glaciers to distribute heat more evenly.

If you want to stop the wind without resorting to the supernatural, at least on a planet-wide basis, your choices are a) Freeze the atmosphere solid, b) Remove the atmosphere entirely, or c) Somehow stop the passage of time. I suppose a fourth option would be to somehow heat the entire planet surface completely evenly so that no pressure differentials would form, but I suspect the system would be chaotic and you’d get eddies and ripples nonetheless. So bottom line – any conditions in which there is no wind would be conditions in which Life As We Know It would not exist.

The book of Revelations is more about things to come in the future, so as far as “literal” meaning, (without defining a belief) I don’t think it’s meant to imply that all of wind will cease, Maybe an event in which ‘angels hold back a hurricane’ or maybe something worse, like halting of breathing! Who knows! After sitting in on many a bible study, I’ve learned that it is for personal interpretation, not literal meaning.

Kite sales would plummet.

As would the kites themselves.

Not to mention the pollution!

Tell me about it! I was thought this verse meant no more high-fiber foods or beer!

Talk about hell. Then if the wordly wind stopped, that would be like a double whammy. Fear the wrath of God!
