No Zombie love? (Left 4 Dead)

We just played what I think was the best versus game we’ve ever had. All-SDMB, and the score was never more than a few hundred apart. Very close the entire way.

At the end, their team was down about 150 points and we’d failed to survive the finale. They played surprisingly well and made it to the helicopter rescue. 2 of them hopped in the chopper, 1 was incapped outside, and I was the tank. My teammates were delaying the guy outside who was trying to get in the chopper, and I went right in to the chopper and ruined their shit. Personally, I think if you get incapped in the rescue vehicle it should count as survival - get out of there and get medical treatment later - but as it is, their incapped bodies flew away on the chopper and they only got a few more points than us that round, so overall we beat them by about 120-150 points. Really, really good match.

BTW, something to think about - when the 2 of you were in the chopper, had you shot your struggling teammate in the head, since you two would’ve been the only remaining standing survivors the chopper would’ve taken off and you’d have won :stuck_out_tongue:

The funny thing is, as we were heading into the chopper someone said “If anyone gets incapped, just shoot them. We can’t afford to wait in the chopper.”

And we tried. Oh boy did we try. Sadly, they wouldn’t die quick enough.

But yes, amazing game. Granted, any game with all SDMBers is fun.

I forgot to mention the sewers finish, where it was just Gambit and I, me with a gray screen, limping as slowly as you can, desperately trying to make it to the safe room before we were dead - and both of us making it in at the very last second without enough health to take 1 hit. That game had all sorts of awesome moments.

You didn’t mention the first round in general. Both teams completed with all 4, but we completed with everyone about 70% health and all 4 health packs!

I just played a pub vs. game where only one of my team made it to the saferoom with 1 HP and a health pack. Our health bonus was 40.

I’m fairly certain this means the game counts the health pack in with your total score, but not exactly positive. Maybe next time we do an all SDMB versus game, we can try to work it all out.

Health packs don’t count. The health bonus starts at 200 and reduces as the infected team damages the survivors. If the survivors don’t pick up their kits at the start and have a flawless run, they’ll finish with the same score as if they did pick them up. Healing at the end of the round does not affect the health bonus score in any way.

The only way to improve your health bonus score is to pickup health kits. Picking up a health kit adds +1 to your health bonus to a maximum of 200. If you do not take your kits at the start, take damage, and then go back for your kits, you’d go back up to 200 (or whatever).

Cool. That’s nifty info to know.

Well, Senorbeef, myself and a few others went on a achievement run last night and got a couple, but that no friendly fire one is really a bitch. I still want to try for it and I think it’s doable, it just takes a lot of work and patience.

It’s definitely doable - that first run the thing that screwed us up was that someone caught the outside edge of the blast of a pipebomb, we managed to not actually shoot each other.

I’m annoyed that we went through a campaign without disturbing the witch (the credits even read 0 for all players for “disturbed the witch the most”) and still didn’t get that acheivement.
2 questions regarding achievements:

Does it count only the successful runs where you didn’t wipe out and restart as far as achievements go, or all of them? For example, you start a map, get vomited on, and later die, so you restart the map - and now you finish the campaign without being vomited on. Do you get the achievement??

And can you try to get the no survivors take damage after the rescue vehicle is called achievement by just starting on the finale map, or do you have to run the entire campaign to make the achievement valid?

p I you wipe and restart the level, it still counts every attempt. So if you mess up, the only option is restarting the entire campaign back to level 1.

Additionally, you have to make sure the players are in entire time. Some people with slow computers have trouble because the miss the very beginning of the opening cinematic in the first level because they are still loading.

The no damage in the finale only counts the time between pressing teh rescue button and getting on the rescue vehicle. You can just do the last mission over and over again (I’m told. Don’t have that one).

Ok, I’ve got a dumb question: how do I retrieve screenshots? I know F5 is set to take a screenshot, but then where is it and how do I see it?

Playing with Gambit directing last night was really fun. Especially until they get some new maps going, it’s nice to have things appear in unexpected places. Except for the witch in the safe room, that was not nice.

I swear, not only are there a ton of newbies playing their new Xmas present (“Hey, let’s fight this tank on the suspension bridge!”), but the percentage of griefers has shot up. I guess assholes don’t have anyone to spend the holidays with, so they have time to play L4D 24/7.

…\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\screenshots\ for screenshots.

I had some of the least balanced spawns I’ve ever seen last night. Tank against tier 1 and no fire vs. tank against tier 2. Whatever. The “AI” of the director is pretty unimpressive.

It doesn’t help that my teammates only want to do 25 damage pounces now. Oh well, at least once we’ve gotten those down we’ll wreck teams even more so.

Thanks!

Here are some shots from our human director game:

As much fun as 25 pt pounces are, I think the claws are more powerful in general. You have to get them when they’re distracted by a rush or something, but the swipe hits all targets in an arc in front of you, and does 10 damage per hit. If you attack them from behind when they have been covered in boomer bile, you can do some serious damage before they notice you. Also good for those time when you know your pounce will get knocked off before you do much damage. Better 10 damage than none.

I’m wondering if they might nerf the Hunter’s melee attack. At least make it more noticeable. I’ve seen people go from green to incapped before they realized what was happening.

There’s a holycrapamazing article on Boomers over at boomercharged.net. I believe it should become required reading before you can even join a versus game.

That’s very much common sense thinking there, except for a few small nuances.

Hmm…

“One thing you must remember when playing the Boomer is that the bile does NOT stack. Throwing up on people then exploding on the same ones will not trigger another horde, nor make the bile last longer, or do anything other than stagger them. The only time when it triggers another horde/blindness event is when the Survivors lose their purple outlines from the previous one.”

I knew it didn’t spawn another horde, but I thought suiciding on them would refresh the blindness duration. I’ve been booming on them, waiting 10 or 15 seconds, and then exploding on them for that purpose. Turns out that’s apparently useless. Can anyone confirm?

I thought that odd, too. I guess it’s something we can play around with in our next Vs. game.

I can’t confirm entirely. But I’ve noticed people that I thought I got twice coming out of it sooner than those that I only hit with the 2nd. I always try to wait until it’s warn off before I make a suicide run, unless that’s impractical for some reason.
