Now, Valve has decided to make a perfect game using the perfect gamemode (co-operative multiplayer,) using the perfect genre (fuckin’ zombies) and it all comes out in about a week and a half.
So, who else plans on playing this perfect game?
For those of you who haven’t yet heard about the impending deluge of awesome, here you go. Most interesting, besides the zombies of course, is the Director who, if you believe Valve, dynamically adjusts every game to create unique scenarios every round. This adjustment is entirely independent of any scripted events or triggers - no choke points or predictable engagements.
Been looking forward to this title since I first caught wind of it a month ago. Ohmygodohmygodvalvezombiescooperativeshootertherapturehascome
Me and the bf are definitely buying this game when it comes out. We’ve been keeping our eyes on it for a while (I’m a big TFC/TF2 fan) and it looks great! We should get a big Dope zombie hunting clan going!
Having watched alot of people play this at PAX, I must inform you all that this game will be one of the greatest Co-Op experiences you have ever had in a video game.
Well, I played a couple of games last night (demo version obviously), and I gotta say this game looks freaking awesome. Despite there being a lot of trouble connecting to a dedicated server I did play through the levels once or twice and I was surprised by the level of cooperation between the random people I was playing with. While that’s obviously the point of the game I wasn’t sure if people would be running off and doing their own thing or what.
I too wonder if a group of 4 dopers could tear through it on the advanced level. Whatever you do don’t disturb that freaking witch though!
I’m downloading the Demo tonight as well, got my headset and everything. I’ve got a question for those of you who have played it. I’ms till not clear on exactly how a level plays out.
Does the group just sit in a spot and fend of zombies? Is there a certain locaiton the group has to get to, certain goals it has to achieve? What about playing the zombies, I heard this was possible too, did I hear correctly?
You don’t sit in just one spot, the group has to get to a pre-determined point and basically fight their way there. I think the plot is that you’re escaping from a zombie infected city to the countryside.
As for playing as the zombies, it’s not available in the demo version, but it will be available in the full version.
Heading out for the moment so I need to make this brief.
Basically, if the demo is any indication, “deluge of awesome” was probably the best way to describe the game. I’ve only done two playthroughs of the level and, as promised, both experienced were markedly different. Valve really is a master of ambiance; did you know the Director even controls the music and sound to match the pace of the monsters it’s sending?
If we could find a decent server I’d love to Dope through the train stations on Advanced. Normal difficulty, while exhilarating, wasn’t really all that challenging. It’s okay, though, because OH MY GOD THE BOOMER JUST VOMITED ON ME AND NOW I’M COVERED IN STICKY, GREEN, ZOMBIE ATTRACTING SPEW!
Sweet Zombie Christ, I forgot this came out tonight!!
I watched the recently released Intro Video and immediately prepurchased it. But now I have a commitment to Co-Op Gears of War 2 tonight, and then a stupid date tomorrow night!
This is the thread where we created an SDMB steam group. Sign up for it.
From there, if you see anyone playing L4D, add them to your friends list. Within the game itself, there’s a “play with friends” option where you can invite people from your friends list, and it only lets people from your friends list play.
Once we have that going, we’ll be able to get 4 of us together to play.
The server finding feature is unusual - you create a lobby where players can get together, and from there you launch the game and it attempts to find you a server. If it fails, you have the option to locally host it. I’ve been hosting demo games that way lately.
Anyway, find me on steam (senorbeef) either manually adding me as a friend or by finding me via the SDMB steam community linked above. Let’s get some games going.
Bah, doesn’t support the Radeon 9800pro video card I just bought a few months ago! And I use win2000, not XP. Most games I can get working, but Steam won’t even let me download it without detecting winXP, so I can’t even tinker with the config files! Blah I say!
