Some speculate that that’s what they are referring to when they say the dlc will have two new Versus campaigns.
About damned time, but I fear this update will be too little.
Agreed. I’m betting that I’ll have to shell out another $50 just to get Dead Air and Death Toll for versus, maybe one level for “survivor mode”, and that’s it. It’s like the companies take the game, sell half of it to the buyers and wait a few months to sell the other half.
I don’t think Valve will charge anything to PC users for the DLC update. It would be out of character for them as a company. For 360 users, Microsoft dictates things like that because they want a piece of the action. But I imagine Valve will try to keep it free or nearly so there too.
Still, I’m a little disappointed with the update description so far. Survivor mode… ok. sure. It’s probably just a permanent crescendo event. The additional 2 versus campaigns just sound like the remaining two campaigns.
I was kinda looking for Dead Air, and Death Toll Versus AND two new campaigns for both co-op and versus making a total of six.
Unlike a lot of other people, I don’t really want new weapons, unless they want to add a tier one rifle (bolt action maybe?). Nor am I looking for new infected. But I really think the 2 additional versus are just something that should have been in place originally.
Breaking news: the update will be free for both PC and Xbox 360. Source.
Sweet, thanks Max.
Well, that’s cool. My copy is at my friend’s house so he and his girlfriend can play it.
Planting an AI tank in the safe room is the funniest thing ever.
Agreed. Especially when the survivors have never seen that before; their yells of “What the hell is this?!” is sweet music to my ears.
So finally after 6 years or so, they release the content that should’ve been in there in the first place.
I’m definitely going to start playing some versus matches again to play some death toll/dead air and hopefully everyone who used to play every day is interested. We’ll find out tonight.
The new survival mode is pretty fun. I’d like to see a versus version, though, where one team sets a time, the roles switch, and then the other team starts with that amount of time and it ticks downward to 0.
It bugged out on us when we were testing it last night. We got access to the whole map, not the blocked-in version that survival is supposed to be. It was funny - we ended up playing through the campaign, going from start to finish, but with survival mode on. After you get away from the area that you’re supposed to be playing, most of the horde stop spawning… anyone who got this glitch could end up setting an hours-long time if they were determined enough.
I agree, but I really wanted at least one or two more campaign maps. Survival mode is pretty much “meh” for me. It’s okay, but I get the feeling that it’d be better if the entire party were drunk and trying trying to do it.
I have to say that I am not impressed with this patch. Wasn’t the dev kit supposed to be included so there could be user created maps?
I think it adds a little bit of life (unlife?), but the Valve folks just seem bound and determined to the closest to absolute minimum as possible.
I suspect they’re succeeding. Or failing.

We encountered a bug last night at the end of a Dead Air versus match; the game got stuck in an end-of-chapter loop and kept awarding points to each team. Wii left the game running and took a screenshot.
New patch, new bugs.
Color me unimpressed with the patch. Like some dopers have already mentioned, they’re basically giving us what should have been included in the game to begin with. It seems like they’re shuffling and dragging their feet for as long as possible before having to provide us with any gasp! new content.
I think the l4d love has become more of a platonic friendship/drinking buddy to me. At least until they get some new content going, it’s boring playing the same four chapters over and over no matter how much they try to rehash it into new modes.
Had this exact same thing happen at the end of our Death Toll versus match the other night.
This patch would’ve been fine or even great if it came out 3 weeks after the game’s launch. We had to wait 6 months to unlock half the content of the original game for versus mode.
Originally this was supposed to have been delayed because they were developing a whole new campaign and they wanted to launch it all at once. I thought that was stupid, but at least that was some reasoning…
What happened to that new campaign? Instead we get a new game mode - which is cool, but it’s just a tweak of existing content. Only 1 map was new. Why would this take 6 months? They got people burned out on their game playing versus because there’s only so much no mercy/blood harvest you can run over and over.
Oh, and Torus, Matsar, Phoenix and I did 13:18 on blood harvest/the bridge survival. Beat that, hippies.
(Is there some way to see a global leaderboard or is it strictly for friends lists?)
Precisely why I put the game down and haven’t touched it in a month. Looks like I’ll be doing it again.
Well, they’re releasing the SDK too which will be a bigger deal. That won’t help you on the Xbox, but people have had nearly ready content for the game for months now developed with the source engine SDK who were just waiting for the L4D SDK so they could finish up. I’m hoping that breathes life into the game.
