Nobody beaten in Toronto

And he’s now a Conservative MP. Now you know why I think Conservatives are vermin. Him and that former Conservative MP rapist Mountie would make perfect cellmates.

Or at least from American TV shows.

McGuinty isn’t Blair’s boss, and for him to stomp on Blair publicly would be an appalling abuse of his office. I despite Dalton McGuinty, too, but in this case it is not McGuinty’s place to question the competence of Bill Blair. It would be akin to the Governor of California getting his nose into the performance of the chief of Sacramento’s police force; it ain’t his job.

Blair works for the mayor. If someone’s going to do something about it it has to be the mayor, of the government of the City of Toronto in some way. Evidently the outgoing mayor didn’t want to do anything about this and I can guarantee you the incoming one won’t, either.

The question was:

And my answer was:

I stand by that statement. It certainly does not hurt Blair to have that backing.

I do agree with you that the incoming mayor will do nothing about it. Every single politician simply hopes this will fade away into the mists of time.

Jeeze, it’s like you have a bunch of rednecks in Toronto or something.

I suppose since the Toronto police chief is against enforcing laws against assault, he’d be okay with receiving a severe beating.

Well, maybe not OK exactly, but I will assume that if his alleged assailants were directly caught on video beating his sorry ass, he’d be perfectly fine if later on, they decided that they didn’t feel like cooperating with investigators, and the case was dropped.

That seems to be how the Toronto Police operate internally, so it must be OK.

Jeez, from all this fuss you’d think than nobody had ever been charged for assaulting an officer’s boot with his face before.

I wonder if a complaint has been made to the Ontario Civilian Police Commission?

Hey, if they make it illegal for cops to beat up innocent civilians, who is left to do the job? Really, do we want criminals to be given such a major responsibility?

Snort!

I’m wondering that too. All the links have been to news sources that simply have various police forces and politicians and ombudsmen pointing fingers at each other, with no clear issue, much less how to resolve it. I reviewed the thread that arose at the time; and based on the reports and posts in that thread, I’m wondering if the police, politicians, etc. are missing the mark, at least as reported in the current news.

Muffin, I seem to recall you mentioning at that time, a Canadian constitutional lawyer taking the Public Works Protection Act regulation in question to task. Any news on that?
