My new cell phone is my first Nokia and my first with a music player built in, and there’s a “feature” that’s driving me nuts. If I invoke the music player in a folder, it will play every audio file in that folder. I can pause it, but I can’t stop it altogether. Can anyone tell me what’s going on with this?
I think I’ll be using the music player function more soon if I start riding the bus to work like I think I will, and I want to figure out how to use it right.
And no, there’s nothing in the manual about this.
I don’t sell the 6555, but I do sell the 3555. I’ll look it up when I get out of my meeting today and see if they’re the same. If they are I’ll post instructions.
What carrier are you on? If they’re not the same I’ll contact my nokia rep and get an answer for you in a day or so. Assuming no one else already has.
I’m with AT&T. Thanks, t-mobileguy!
Ok not exactly the same phones. I’ll run over to AT&T and take a look at one of their phones.
I want to make sure I understand exactly what you want to do. You want to play just one song in your folder and then have it stop instead of moving on to the next one on your play list.
I want to be able to stop the player period. Even if the song isn’t over. The only control option I see is Pause, which leads me to believe the player is still active.
Here’s the thing: I record Car Talk, Wait Wait, This American Life, etc., on the weekends an then listen to them during the week. If I accidentally start Car Talk but I wanted to listen to Wait Wait, I don’t want to have to wait an hour for the damn thing to finish playing.
And thanks for your help!
Ok so it looks like all you will need to do is pause the music you are currently listening to, than go back into your menu and select a new MP3. It should stop the one your one and start up the second.
Let me know if this doesn’t work. The AT&T store by my store didn’t have any music on their phones so I couldn’t try it and the rep that I talked to was… Ah… Not fighting any ignorance today.
I already emailed my nokia rep for further assistance but she’s out of the office till Monday. Let me know.
Thanks again, t-mobileguy. I still find it bewildering that they did not seem to think anyone would ever just want to stop … listening … to … music.
“Hey, what controls do you think the music player ought to have?”
“Play, skip ahead, skip back, pause … that should do it.”
“What about stop?”
“Why would anyone ever want to stop?”
“Good point!”
Oh, Sweet Zombie Jesus. Never mind.
I just found out by way of emergency I’m-at-work-and-this-damn-thing-just-tried-to-play-every-sound-file-I’ve-got that pressing the End Call (a.k.a. Power) button will stop the player. I suppose on some level that’s intuitive, but I had really considered turning the damn phone off as a kind of last resort, not the first thing I’d try.
Edit: clearly it is the intended way of turning off the player, because it politely flashes up on the screen “Music Player Stopped.”

one would think that would be the kind of information a store rep would have been able to give me!
