Non-comic book characters who would make great Avengers (or JLAers)

For the record, manga count as “comics,” right?

•Hmmm…I was going to suggest The Doctor, but he might be a tad overpowered for a super-team…On the other hand, both the Avengers and JLA have had actual gods.*
•James Bond—might not be flamboyant yet technically non-murderous enough for the teams in question, though. Maybe he could try out for the Ultimates.
•Jonny Quest—(Most recent version). General purpose sidekick.
Cybersix—Technically a comics character, but since it was a gritty, B&W, somewhat adult themed graphic novel from South America, I figure she deserves a pass. Plus, I liked the cartoon. A good character for a Marvel superhero team, what with the whole “hated and feared” kick they’ve got going.

For villains…

•Dr. Herbert West: the Reanimator. Master of clever, weasely scheming, and morbid doodling in undead flesh.
•Maximilian from The Black Hole. (Arch-henchman, at least.)
Dr. Anton Phibes—organist, theologan, reconstructive surgery enthusiast, gruesomely creative theme-murderer. Also, he’s Vincent Price. Good for clearing out hero stables and rogue’s galleries of crappy characters.
•Dolph Lundgren’s Sgt. Andrew “GR-13” Scott from Universal Soldier, your basic crazy, psychopathic cyborg…zombie…bioroid…thing. Guy. Anyway, he did “crazy” amusingly well (“It’s…EMPTY!”).
•Roland, The Headless Thompson Gunner.—Or maybe he was a hero. Hard to tell…he doesn’t say a word.
*Which reminds me, I was thinking of starting a “Which fictional characters would you deify?” thread. The good Doctor, Santa Claus, and Alucard were on the list.

Sherlock Holmes as a team leader.

And, if we are doing villains–the French Pulp Magazine villain beyond compare: the sociopathic Fantomas!

Introduced into the X-Men titles by Grant Morrison as Fantomex.

The Lensmen would make great JLA allies. (What? What? >_> )

The Phantom would make a good replacement for Batman once the JLA get tired of his jackassery.

James Carville as Captain Cueball.
Oprah Winfrey as The Empath.

Ripped-Shirt Kirk?

I was basically angling for Gil the Arm to get the super detective slot when Bats goes off to sulk in his cave, or is in bat-rehab, or whatever.

Several of the characters from Drinking Midnight Wine would be good in comics. Hob the Serpent’s Son as a villain, Angel the Descended Angel as both villain and hero depending on whether she has her memories. Jimmy Thunder, God for Hire as a hero of course. Gaia and Luna as goddesses, the Serpent In The Sun as the cosmic level baddie, and Leo Morn the werewolf as the sleazy antihero.

From Beyond the Blue Moon, Jericho Lament. The Walking Man, Wrath Of God In The World of Men. He would make a good Ghost Rider style sinner-smiter. Plus he has a great name.

The Powers and Dominations from the Nightside series would typically make good superheros and villains; they basically are. Razor Eddie is like the Flash with body odor and an unstoppable knife. La Belle Dame sans Merci would make a good and grusome villain, especially with her habit of augmenting her power by attaching useful parts of her victims to herself ( living werewolf fur cloak, skin from a vampire; that sort of thing ). The protagonist John Taylor would do well; his “find/get anything” talent would be quite useful. Dead Boy would be a good mid-range grim hero type. And many others I’d mention if I hadn’t loaned my copies of the books out.

Khadaji, The Man Who Never Missed would make a very good action hero/master planner type.

Timothy Zahn’s Cobra commandos would make good superheros. superhumanly strong, with built in lasers ( one in each hand, a bigger one in a heel ), enhanced senses, computer controlled superspeed combat reflexes. And all carefully designed to be very hard to detect, so they look perfectly human.
