I wasn’t sure where to put this question, so feel free to move it wherever.
Let’s say China reaches a point where they no longer want anything to do with communism. They look at their flag and it reminds them of that which they left behind. What would be a likely flag for them to go with? Something from their history? Something completely new?
They have already removed the hammer and sickle from the larger star. What else needs to be done? A star is not symbolic of communism, even the USA flag has stars on it.
The yellow dragon flag of the Qing Dynasty is considered to be the first flag of a unified CHina.
Honestly, their flag will be the least of their worries since to get to the point where they ‘no longer want anything to do with communism’ would mean a systemic collapse. That said, assuming the CCP went tits up, in theory Taiwan would be the successor, since they still claim to be the legitimate government (as the CCP claims that Taiwan is simply a rebellious province and will one day come back into the fold). It’s at least theoretically possible that they would simply take over management, in which case they already have a flag (shown in the first post of this thread). I think it’s highly unlikely this would happen, mind, but it’s possible I suppose…
Technically, the Chinese government is run by a United Front coalition of nine political parties. The nine parties are the Communist Party and eight political parties you never heard of. But this legal fiction allows the Chinese government to claim it’s not a one-party dictatorship.
