Non-controversial politics question

I have a question about the democratic nominees for president. when a candidate drops out of a race after earning delegates, are those delegates allowed to vote for another candidate? ex: could wesley clark’s delegates from winning oklahoma maybe go to john edwards? (i know a bit about the delegate process, i’m referring to those whose vote is based on the popular primary vote. they’re supposed to be locked in, but it makes no sense to lock in on a candidate who can’t run for election.)

We just talked about this today in this thread.

Welcome to the Boards, but often it’s a good idea to poke around a bit first to see if a currently hot question has already been posted.

thanks a ton…i looked through the first page before posting, not checking the dates/times. assumed that the first 50 or so couldn’t have been from only about 3 hours ago. lol apparently this board is hotter than i thought. very informative, i’ll be sticking around here more often. thanks for the quick and gentle criticism.
