Non-PC songs

Genesis “Illegal Alien” and it’s equally cringeworthy video.

Some of Devin Townsend’s lyrics are surprisingly homophobic, such as “Random Analysis”:

Faggot is as faggot does with every little faggot thing a faggot do
I’m not insane, I’m not insane…I’m just smarter than you
You’re acting like a day old male
Day old female

Great, now everyone’s gonna think I zombiefied this thread. :stuck_out_tongue:

“What Made the Red Man Red” from Peter Pan.

Spooky Tooth: “You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw”.

Belsen Was a Gas” - Sex Pistols.

Yellow Man, Randy Newman

Eatin’ rice all day
While the children play
You see he believes
In the family
Just like you and me
Oh, yellow man, oh, yellow man…
…got to have a yellow woman
When you’re a yellow man.

Fat-Bottomed Girls is not non-PC. Fat-Bottomed Girls is praise & worship music.

This appeals to my puerile sense of humour: http://www.subliminalmessages.com/205_lawyer.htm/

Has Big Bad Bruce been mentioned? It was a parody of Big Bad John, but, you know, gay.

I found that hilarious!

Woman Is Nigger Of The World - John Lennon

The Zombies’s Tell Her No. “Don’t hurt me now cause her love belongs to me.”

I dunno, I’d think there’s a difference between ‘non-PC’ and ‘hyperbolic for effect’.

‘Woman is the Nigger of the World’ is using an offensive term to make a point in a jarring way. Just the use of the term isn’t non-PC. Ditto for a lot of the other cited pieces. Such could be done now just as easily to make the same point.

However, I’d term the non-PC songs, “Stuff they’d NEVER get away with today.”

My favorite is Julie Brown’s "Homecoming Queen’s Got A Gun’ from about 1984(?). The song is a comedic send up of a school shooting in which the narrator - a teen girl - sees her best friend commit a shooting at their homecoming parade. She’s shocked and concerned about being embarrassed and occasionally less-than-concerned about the casualties. A math teacher is killed and it’s sad but also a relief because she’ll get to avoid a test. When the glee club is killed her only remark is, ‘No big loss’.

I agree. Superman is not intended to be hyperbolic. It’s using a racial stereotype to be funny. Jump Jim Crow uses racial terms and stereotypes to condemn those terms ant stereotypes, but if you’re not paying attention you may miss the point. Belsen Was A Gas (for example) is intended to be offensive.

I’ve always been dumbfounded by Roger Waters - Watching TV. I think it’s somehow meant as a touching profound tribute or memorial, but man the tone-deafness of the song is unreal, especially when coming from a progressive social consciousness musician.

“She had perfect breasts
She had high hopes
She had almond eyes
She had yellow thighs”

There’s a Charlie Daniels song that I’m always shocked when it comes up on a random Pandora country station.
Just a perfect example of casual southern racism. Not googling this line to find the song title…
“We worked like n_____ in the fields”

A joke song, but “Stuart” by The Dead Milkmen:

Well…you could go with “The Whistling Coon”, “All Coons Look Alike To Me”, or “Every Race Has A Flag But The Coon”. Take your pick. If you seek them out, be aware that the tunes are pretty catchy. As your jaw is dropping at how sickening these songs are, you should know that there was a craze for these kinds of songs, and that they got thrown in the mix with ragtime music during the era and ragtime probably would never have caught on if it hadn’t been for this crap. It was a weird era…

Heh… I came in here to add “Just about any song from David Allen Coe.”

To quote from this NYT article:
“In the early 80’s the outlaw country singer David Allan Coe released very small quantities of two underground albums of songs that are among the most racist, misogynist, homophobic and obscene songs recorded by a popular songwriter.”
