Non-stutterers who stutter.

I was just listening to Charlie Rose, who does it quite a lot, but he’s not alone. It’s certainly an affectation, and seems to be much more common among people who are educated, or who are becoming educated. Quite likely some of you reading this.
What I’m referring to isn’t “real” stuttering, which I sometimes do, but often the repitition of the first syllable of the first word of a statement;
“I-I-I I think what’s needed is…”
“B-B-B But you’re not considering…”
What is this about?

I don’t know why, but I do it sometimes. I think maybe, it’s the fact that I have to slow down my thinking to spit out what I’m trying to say. My brain is already past what is trying to come out of my mouth. Does that make sense?

What Dolores said. My mind is so far ahead of my mouth that the verbal processor experiences a buffer overflow.

I don’t know what it’s about, but it’s damned frustrating, especially when hubby laughs at me for it. Sure, he’s laughing in his “that’s just cute” way that he does when I do something that amuses him, but it’s still annoying.

I did this this evening. I just stuck at the beginning of a statement, for about 20 seconds. I had to work to stop the glitch, and restart. It is a form of stutter - I just live with it.
