NON-US dopers. A poll. Do you dislike Bush

Czarcasm - this clearly wasn’t meant to be a rant (disguised or otherwise). yojimbo merely created the poll to try to show certain pig-headed individuals in GD that the statement that Bush is “spectacularly loathed abroad” is indeed correct.

Oh, and for the sake of this poll I should add that I’m British.

I dislike him intensely, and am scared of his Administrations policies with regard to the Middle East.

So, is IMHO now called “In my Humble Opinion, but not containing Swear words or negative views of the President?”

American living overseas. One of the things keeping me from applying for Japanese citizenship is that I wouldn’t be able to vote against him in 2004.

And censored, for whatever reason, I always thought he was short, too. I guess he just comes across as a very small, childish man.

I must say i agree.

Is it the rule now that if a vast majority of the respondents to a poll take up the negative position, then that “poll” is automatically transformed into a “rant”?

Is there a cut-off point at which the “poll” designation remains viable? 70/30 perhaps? or 60/40?

Would this thread have ended up in the Pit if 90% of the respondents had said “I really like Bush and think he’s doing a good job, and all the critics are idiots”?

I thought not.

I can’t believe I’m the first to say this, but Czarcasm moved this to the right forum, IMO. Regardless of the tone or intent of the OP (which I agree was merely to establish a representative base of ‘foreign’ opinion re: Bush), quite a few of the responses have been small rants about the subject. Moving this thread to the BBQ Pit will allow freer ranting, but actually has no effect on the validity of the poll.

Can we forget about where the thread is. It doesn’t really bother me to be honest and as xenophon41 says it doesn’t really effect it. May even get more posts as the Pit is probably busier than IMHO

Hey, i doesn’t really worry me either.

I was just interested in how consistently this sort of logic will be applied.

Well, if the OP was “who the fuck likes Michael Jackson”, you’d probably get the same result.

I can only shake my head in disbelief that such a man can be considered to be a worthy leader.

Doesn’t seem to be too popular beyond US shores, does he?

This thread doesn’t prove anything.

I am struck by the overwhelming vote against Bush and his policies.

Two questions for my European friends:

Among the banned weapons that Saddam was known to possess were intermediate range rockets. Some of them might have been able to reach parts of Europe.

  1. Did that worry you?
  2. If not, why not?
  1. What the hell has that got to do with it?
  2. Why?
  1. No.
  2. Because they didn’t exist (it was UK intel reporting on a missile type in development that might come into fruition in a few years’ time if all went well for Saddam).

Or, to put it another way:

America’s use of resources is fucking up the world big time.

  1. Does that worry you?
  2. If not, why not?

America’s tendency to shoot first and answer questions later is leading to increased tension across the world.

  1. Does that worry you?
  2. If not, why not?

Wow. This simplisitic question game sure is fun. Shall we play it some more?

Bush wishes to put tariffs on foreign steel entering the US.

  1. Does that worry you?
  2. If not, why not?

Actually, now I’m annoyed with myself for responding.

december, this is a poll thread with a few clarification posts in it - not a debate about why or why not non-US people dislike Bush - just whether or not they do. With all due respect, do you mind not hijacking it? Start your own GD or Pit rant or something.

Apologies for furthering of hijack.

No

Because Bush’s “shoot first” policy isn’t increasing tension across the world.

Yes. It was a big mistake for Bush to up these tariffs IMHO.

Fuck off back to your own threads, december, you fucking idiot.

In Spain he was disliked long before Iraq. In June 2001 he visited Madrid and The Guardian said:

He is seen as a dangerous clown. While I cannot find any polls about him personally, 91% of the Spanish people opposed the invasion of Iraq and I think it is safe to assume about that percentage dislikes him and his policies.

  1. No
  2. Why would he attack us? I’ve always had the impression that with pre-war pressure, Saddam was sufficiently deterred. Of course I admit that this pressure did not come from Europe.
“Attack your neighbors and we will invade.” would have been a good way to deal with this “threat”. “We will invade whatever you do” was not.
