I’m Canadian and I find the dearth of candidates in the Japanese royal family mildly interesting. I guess I find Prince Charles’s stupid views on homeopathy and other quackery mildly interesting, too.

More than that, I can only say there’s no public sign yet of Charles being the fussy interventionist on potentially controversial issues that he was rumoured to want to be.

I don’t remember where I read it, but he said quite openly that being monarch is a very different thing than being the heir. He knew that he would have to make some changes in his personal style once he became king.
