Non-US Dopers: what US TV shows do you like?

I quite like the current Chicago Fire/Chicago PD/Chicago Med stuff. It’s competently done, pretty untaxing and thus ideal for gazing at while tired after work.

I like the serious/dark stuff: Breaking Bad, The West Wing, The Wire. Need subtitles for those last two…

Comedy usually falls pretty flat, except for The Big Bang Theory, which is way cool.

Apart from that I’m generally a UK TV junkie myself

In Sydney tonight on free-to-air you could watch:

American Pickers
Pawn Stars
World’s Craziest Fools
Family Guy
American Dad
Married With Children
The Nanny
Castle
Criminal Minds
Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders
The Big Bang Theory
Donald Trump Roast
Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen X
Hawaii Life
House Hunters International
Millionaire Matchmaker
The Real Housewives Of Orange County
Law & Order: S.V.U.

Myself am a rusted on ABC watcher and consequently my comedy/drama intake is much more BBC based.
Have West Wing, Breaking Bad, House of Cards (US), Hell on Wheels, Hill Street Blues and Lonesome Dove on DVD but generally I’ll take Poldark over the Sopranos and QI over the Simpsons.

Am aware of Seinfeld, Will & Grace, Frasier, Simpsons, The Wire and whole gambit of US crime dramas but very rarely watch them.

Does anyone like ‘House’? Does it resonate overseas?

Hugh Laurie was so much better when he was clowning around with Stephen Fry.

House is popular here, but I’ve never got into it. I don’t watch much TV

Ooh, those mentions of Chicago remind me that, going back in time, I did enjoy Due South.

And Northern Exposure.

Not a lot really, but I don’t watch much TV here either! My main current import is produced in Canada.

Can’t wait for the new Star Trek though.

If the DVD player on your computer can play region 1 (US DVDs) you can pick it up used on eBay for less than half that. I watch a lot of British TV by using a program that allows my to crack a PAL (region 2) DVD, and upload it to my removable drive, where I keep all my media files. I have tons of British TV on it. I don’t have to switch the region code for the DVD to do this. I do need a 32-bit OS partition now, because they don’t seen to have to released a 64-bit version of it. XP runs it perfect.

Yup. Filmed there, mostly location shots. With extras who mostly work in NYC, sy the are mainly in Actors’ Equity, not The Screenactors Guild (unless they are in both). A lot of the Children’s Television workshop Actors show up on it.

I love that they show the New York weather, warts and all. And that they mention real locations. A lot of the restaurants and other food places, names of subway stops, etc. are the real deal.

I’ve found US network tv drama largely unwatchable for years but, on cable, The Americans is still outstanding.

Still enjoying David Simon’s work with HBO - Show Me a Hero depicting political brutality more recently.

Almost currently, the adaptation of a BBC show The Night Of was well conceived.

House was very popular in much of continental Europe.
