However, I worked with an Italian guy for 3 years. I once asked him what the most authentic Italian food restaurant was in the Minneapolis area. He replied Olive Garden. Seriously I asked him? - He said it was the one which food reminded him most of home and he ate there often.
Granted…it is a sample size of one and he may have been batshit insane
There is a crappy “American” restaurant chain in the UK call “Old Orleans” (fills approximately the space of Chillis or TGIs space in the in the crappy food chain).
My American girlfriend was pretty appalled at stuff they called Barbecue Sauce (particularly the fact they put Worcestershire Sauce in it) .
Worcestershire sauce is not unheard of in barbecue sauces, depending on the region you’re in. In Owensboro, for instance, the sauce for barbecue is practically half Worcestershire and the other half vinegar. (Of course, the barbecue meat of choice there is mutton, too.) Google “barbecue sauce worcestershire” and you’ll find plenty of recipes with the sauce in it, some as the dominant flavor.
Yeah, and the Lotteria chain of fast food restaurants is the topic at hand. Since Lotteria was established in Japan (as was the Lotte corporation, which does in fact have headquarters in Japan as well as Korea) and had locations throughout Japan before the first Korean Lotteria ever opened then I still think “a Japanese chain” is a pretty accurate description.
“By far the worst Japanese burger chain” would IMHO be even more accurate. They were cheaper than MOS Burger, but it was obvious why.
Yes, you can. (At least in Washington and Montana, but I don’t think they’re such a rare item that they wouldn’t show up in the UP.) Look in the canned vegetables too; they’re sometimes there and instead of in the glass jars of pickle products. I know for a fact that Del Monte and that one brand with “aunt” in them name make them, and if I could think up the name of another canned vegetable brand to plug into Google, I could come up with some more.
Also, if you just want a few big slices, try going to a salad bar with takeout boxes.
Aunt Nellie’s is the brand you’re thinking of (That link is from Wal-Mart’s website.) That’s probably the most common brand I’ve seen. In Chicago, which has a large Polish population, there’s hardly a grocery store that doesn’t stock them or Krakus pickled beets.
edit: I don’t think I’ve ever noticed the canned pickled beets before (usually, they’re just regular beets in water), but here’s an American brand I found.
