If Norm was half the senator Wellstone was, he never would have even considered making a remark like that.
Not that I want to defend Coleman or anything (I always found him smarmy when I lived in the Twin Cities), but from the article:
If indeed he was asked how his relationship was with the White House compared to Wellstone’s, I can certainly understand how he might phrase it that way. It was still perhaps lacking some in tact, but not the big slap in the face that the quote out of context appears to be.
It just doesn’t carry much weight when you say those things about yourself, does it?
I saw that. The whole thing still bothers me, though.
Which White House was he referring to? Betcha Wellstone got along with Clinton about as well as Coleman gets along with Bush, and for largely the same reason, don’tcha think?
But Coleman would certainly have helped himself more by pointing out his capability of independent thought.
I’ve yet to forgive him for those damned commercials with his daughters.
Well, now, remember, Wellstone was much more liberal than Clinton. From what I heard, they did not get along so well together at first. Certainly Wellstone was never in Bill Clinton’s pocket the way Coleman is with G.W. Bush.
LOL! Independent thought! You can’t point it out if it doesn’t exist.
Why would a reporter even ask Coleman if he gets along better with the Bush White House than Wellstone did? Isn’t the answer pretty darn obvious? The reporter was probably asking just so he could get a smarmy quote like that, and Coleman fell for it!
No kidding. I’ve yet to see any ice cream, either.
…or did you have to vote for him to get any?
Coleman voted against drilling in the Alaska Wildlife reserves.
I didn’t vote for the guy, but if that doesn’t show thought independent of the White House, I don’t know what does.
