Normal People with Famous/Odd Names.

I don’t know of too many people I know with famous names, but I’ve heard some odd ones. Such as a guy my mom knows, named Fernie Majunka. It’s supposed to be pronounced “Mayunka” but no one says it like that. Another strange name: Ernie Maximovich. I love this name, as well as Fernie’s name. My name is pretty boring, though I still like it, anyway.

Used to work a couple public service jobs, and we always kept lists of odd names. “Famous” ones were a dime a dozen, but the puns were better: Duc Phat, Anita Bonar, and my favorite–Rhea Dyer. Imagine getting mail addressed last name first. I also used to know a Larry Derryberry. Really did have a daughter named Sherry, but don’t know if wife was Mary. Might have well as been.

As long as we’re talking about Rhea Dyer and her problems:

Quebec medicare card numbers begin with the first three letters of the last name and the first letter of the first name (so mine would be MCLM #### ####).

Well, dr_mom_mcl once treated a woman named Tara Cunningham. You figure it out.

Ah, yes; but that was due to the eccentricity of the numbering system. With poor Ms. Dyer, the question we could never answer was did her PARENTS saddle her with this, or did she marry into it? Either one boggles the mind.

Hey, I knew a Larry Derryberry with a wife named Mary. This was about 30 years ago in TN; he would be 50-60ish now. Do you think we have a Derryberry in common or are there two of them running around?

I’d vote for more than one, believe it or not. Mine was in OK, but my supervisor at work knew one when he lived in New York. Evidently, Larry Derryberrys abound. Who’da thunk it?

I’ve got a buddy who dabbles in indie film production whose last name is Tarantino. He claims that one advantage of the name is that everyone always returns his calls.

My physics teacher was Mr. Hertz.

I also knew Edie Ready and Salma Palma

My dad is Billy Wilder. That’s his birth certificate name.

(for non-movie buffs: Billy Wilder is a famous movie director of the 40’s and 50’s. Among his flicks are The Apartment, Sunset Blvd., Some Like It Hot, Stalag 17, etc…)

I had a gym teacher in HS whose name was William Bills, went by the name Bill. I would hear him on the phone “Hi, this is Bill Bills… Bill Bills from X school.”

When I worked at a computer reseller, I would look up weird words to see what came up in the customer database sometimes. I found a customer named Anil Dookie. I thought it might be a prank name entered by a bored sales rep, but it had orders in it… Rough name in gradeschool.

That one needs to be in the “Spoonerisms” thread, too.

Used to be friends with Jean Kelly. Went to school with David Davis (he was adopted by his foster family at least so it wasn’t their fault) and Holly Berry.

My aunt really wanted to name my cousin victoria until she realized that would make her initials VD.

My mom has a cousin Russell Russell. In college there were women with a couple of fanciful names:

Thankful Vanderstar
Lyric Wallwork

I did know a delightful famous/strange combination. A stock analyst I knew was named James Joyce. His wife’s first name was Joyce. She must have really loved him.

My maternal grandfather is James Brown - a 76 year old white guy in Norwalk CA.

I also went to school with a girl named - no shit - Velvet Beaver. I’m constantly pulling out the yearbooks to prove this one.

on this one hiking trip where we were going over mtns and skirting cliffs we got into names… we knew our guide’s names were Sasha and Mike, but we were wonderingntheir last names… Mike said, well… you guys promise not to laugh?
and we were all like, sure, yes, right (we all have known each other for YEARS, and we are the wild type that laugh at anything and have running jokes for months) so he told us, “Mike Manson” we were like. hmmm… we are over 20 miles from civilization… and we are with a Manson… well now… just thought I’d Share…

I know a Danielle beavers, also some more…
“Mike manson” was… normal enough, but did a stunningly great impression of Bill Murray from CaddyShack
my GreatUncle’s name was… “Richard Head”

My girlfriend had an acquaintance named Tara Hyman. That is so cruel.

I went to high school with a girl named Kelly Green. She was born on St. Patrick’s Day.

I ran into a girl at college named Frost Bush.

NB It’s Ad Noctem, not Ad Noctum. FYI
