normalizing streaming audio

I listen to many streaming audio sources, and am always having to adjust the volume between them. Is there some software that will automatically adjust the output to my speakers to keep them constant?

Tech question? Here’s a checklist of info you’ll probably need.

That’s not relevant here. The OP is asking whether a program that does something exists, not asking for help solving a computer problem.

A quick Google turns up one very recent patent, but nothing that claims to be able to do it. That doesn’t really surprise me–this is a much harder problem than you might think.

If you don’t know the OPs operating system you can’t answer this question.

I too would like something to do this. It is frustrating enough that I’ve gone back to listening to the radio…

Sorry I was not clear. Using Windows Vista

I can’t answer the question for Windows, but on Linux we call this a media abstraction layer such as Phonon. You basically need a very low level audio layer that mediates communication between all software devices and the hardware and allows you to globally configure the parameters that should be set for all sources.
