Whew, and George Bush the Elder in the intensive care ward.
Gulf War memories.
I remember at work when Desert Storm was going on, some co-worker was raving about how Schwarzkopf was the greatest general in American history.
I said, “Oh yeah? Better than Washington? U.S. Grant? Nathan Bedford Forrest? Patton?”
Shut him up quick.
Does anyone have a link to the old SNL skit where Chris Farley is playing Schwarzkopf, and he’s on some rant at the end of which he screams “I want Hollifield (sp?)”?
Stormin’ Norman ain’t stormin’ no more. RIP.
He seemed to be pretty good at his job. Not an egomaniac. Fairly scandal and drama free. And just a nice and decent guy.
More than you can say about lots of other famous people these days.
RIP Stormy.
Right guy for the job at the right time and place. Plus he had stage presence and could command a soundbite just as well as an armored corps…

RIP, General
A good man. Requiescat in pace.
When I told the SO, she said that she’d met General Schwarzkopf when she was in Iraq. I know she’d told me the circumstances before, but I don’t remember them.
I do know that she liked him.
He lived in my neighborhood growing up and I played with his daughter Cindy. My strongest memory of him was sanding int he back yard when the screams of a child erupted from the very abusive home two doors down. I looked up at this big, authoritative (then Major) man in a uniform expecting him to go and rescue that poor kid.
He just complained about the noise and went back to his conversation with his wife.
He’s no hero in my book. I am sorry for his family though. They loved and idolized him, and I know they are suffering at this loss.
