Norton Security Scam Err... scan

Has anybody else gotten this lately? I am trying to figure out how it got on my computer. The only installations I have done lately is updates, and I know java just loves to trick you into installing this. Maybe it was Nvidia? I just updated my drivers last week. I have never had a reason to double check Nvidia I suppose now I will have to.

It is bad enough to fight against all the malware out there than have to deal with skanky practices to put nominally, supposedly useful software that I don’t want on my pc. Which in my book makes Norton malware.

I am already running the scans from my preferred anti virus anti malware to make sure I didn’t pick up some unknown virus playing as Norton.

no comment directly on the OP.

java, web browsers, Adobe are all pushing stuff. install and update carefully.

I probably should have put this in the pit, lame as it is, or IMHO. I was wondering if they had a new sneakier way of doing it so I could be a little more careful in the future. Then I could blame them instead of myself.
Sorry for wasting your time.

Doesn’t the built-in uninstaller tell you what day and time it was installed on? If not, check the “created” or “last modified” dates on the folder norton is installed in.

I haven’t seen Norton being bundled with anything. Usually, it’s McAffe.

Norton comes bundled with a lot of OEMs.

You gotta watch extra carefully now-a-days. I had something install the other day where I was given a choice of standard or custom install. Selecting custom install allowed me to uncheck several pieces of spam (at least to me).

I believe we can ask our ISP’s to blackhole norton.com as being a source of malware.
