Norton Speed Disk problem

This weekend I tried optimizing my hard drives with Norton Speed Disk (ver. 4.0) – worked fine on C:, but when I tried to optimize D:, it froze at 43%. I ran Disk Doctor w/ a thorough surface scan and found no problems. I’ve run the utility in the past with no problems, the only difference now I can think of is that I’ve got several gigantic WAV files on D: that weren’t there before. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

System info: P450 + 128mb RAM, 45GB hard drive with 2 partitions (C = 7.5GB, D = 29GB) Anti-virus shield was disabled during process.

Try running DOS scandisk in real mode DOS. There are sometimes some disk problems that give Norton SD under Windows a bellyache.

Ok I tried that, no problems found…and now Speedisk freezes at 42% instead.

Microsoft’s disc defragmenter seems to work fine, though.

Grrr…this wouldn’t be another one of Bill Gates’ evil plots, would it? Norton never had any problems before, why the heck would it suddenly stop working??
