Norwegian(?). Dutch(?) Dopers: Translation help, please (Coldfire? Anyone?)

At least I think it’s Norwegian. Um…it’s definitly from that area.

I collect musicals, and I just got my hands on one, but I have no idea what it’s about or what the title means, or…well…anything else, really. There’s what seems like a four paragraph synopsis on the back, and I was wondering if I could get a translation, since there doesn’t seem to be a Norwegian->English translation engine.

Note, I can’t find the ascii code for the “o” with the “/” through it symbol, so I’m using 0 to represent it. This is printed in an annoying script font, and there’s a character that looks like a ue, but I’m assuming it’s an æ. It’s also possible that I’m conflating the occasional F and L (unless it’s the olde english F looking character that means “s”), so I apologize for what may be an awful transcription. It’s as accurate as I could get.

The name of the musical (caps, theirs): Princessens utvalgte
The synopsis(?):

Help. Anyone?

Romerike is a town in Norway. I think. I’ve just been to visit the Romerike Taxi Service and the Romerike Judo Club.

So I guess we’re looking at Norwegian, unless it’s a Swedish or Danish musical set in Norway.

I’ll take a stab at it, but there are a lot of words here I don’t know. flodnak would be in a better position to answer this one. Below is my take on it, not a literal translation.

The Princess’s Choice King Henrik, who lived in a castle in Romerike, has died and left everything to his daughter Henrietta, on the condition that she marry before a time limit runs out. According to the terms of the will, her new husband must not be a prince. All sorts of men start streaming in with marriage proposals: a gallant knight, a melodramatic playwright, a statistician, etc. While she’s making her decision of which one to marry, the men are put to work guarding the castle walls (?). A chambermaid hatches some kind of scheme (?). Princess Henrietta doesn’t know how to make the decision, and time is running out.

I’ll take a stab at it (although I’m Swedish and not Norwegian) (I also took the liberty to correct a couple of typos in the original Norwegian)

There’s a national mourning at Sagablått (Fairy tale Blue), an airy (?) palace in Romerrike

The dead king Henrik has stated in his will that his sole heir, the spoilt princess Henriette, will not be crowned queen before she is married.

In small print it is written that she has to marry before the time runs out, and in ever smaller print that her husband must not be a prince.

Time after another the knave (?) Syver sends the horse Trave out for new candidates, and the most adventurous (?) come as suitors to Sagoblått; a bold knight, a talaktive statistician, a charming (…), a wealthy businessman, a melodramatic actor and a very (?) soft man. Who of them will fulfill the demands in the will and win the princess and the whole kingdom.

The court marshal Mørk tries to hold the fort, but the confused court is of little help. In the meantime the chambermaid Krinoline is trying out her cunning plan (a rather free translation, somewhat influenced by Baldrick), and Sagoblått is running the risk of being overtaken by Soria Moria itself.

Henrietta has no time to lose, for the big hourglass in the palace is running out in a steady pace, and if she doesn’t find a suitable husband before the time is out she has to marry court marshal Mørk, and it is not easy to say who fears the most that that would happen.
