nostalgia for songs I don't even like. WTF, brain?

I just thumbs-up’d Marcy Playground’s “Sex and Candy” when it played on my Pandora. I think because it reminded me of my high-school years back in the '90s. Which is weird, because not only did I never particularly like the song, but I also hated high school.

It’s not totally crazy, because lately I’ve been missing the only two people from high school I actually still give a damn about, who got married and moved to the other side of the country…

Still, it was kind of a WTF moment for me. So, anyone else have any weird “I didn’t even think I liked that” moments to share? Doesn’t have to be a song, but it can be.

There are a lot of pop songs from the 80s that I hear now and get excited for, which my teen-aged self disdained at the time…Madonna, Paula Abdul, Culture Club, various Jacksons, etcetera.

I don’t know when in the past two decades they stopped being “uncool,” but they did and I can hear them now and enjoy it. You’re right, I suppose it’s nostalgia for that time of my life.

A new 90’s rock music station just came to Cleveland this year, and it plays all the stuff I love (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, STP, et al) and then throws in stuff like “Sex and Candy” and “Lump” and a bunch more. I totally hated those songs in the 90s, but I totally listen to them now and say “Yeah man! 90’s music rocks!”

I have a fondness for late 70’s disco and soft rock because that was what my mother listened to on the car radio when I was a child, but at the time, I would have preferred Kiss or Van Halen.

Moved MPSIMS --> Cafe Society, tra la la la la.

I never liked Madonna at the time she was churning out hits, but now when I hear one of her songs…waves of nostalgia.

The really, *really *80’s stuff like “She Blinded Me With Science” or “Everybody Have Fun Tonight.” Obviously Wang Chung sucks and I hated all that shit at the time but it makes me smile to hear it now.
