Some people hear voices, but is there a general phenomenon of people reading words that aren’t really there? Or is this just a result of not paying attention?
I stay out of Great Debates etc. because I have an established pattern of reading things in peoples’ posts that aren’t really there. Do I just need to pay closer attention?
I think everyone misreads things fairly often, especially when reading especially short or especially long passages.
Usually it happens because your brain tries to take shortcuts, trying to match what you’re reading to expected patterns rather than actually process the content from scratch.
This is assuming that you’re only talking about small misreadings of words or phrases. If you’re seeing entire sentences or paragraphs in posts that don’t really exist, then something else is going on…
