One thing that I am curious is if Trump really won 2016. I suspect some fraud, and find it unusual that the poles projected Hillary, yet Trump won. Some fraud is even more likely with Trump getting caught on tape trying to manufacture votes for himself in the 2020 election as it showed that Trump will commit election fraud. AFAIK the 2016 election was not investigated for fraud. So what could happen if we could and do find out that trump lost 2016? What I’m talking about is all the evil stuff he did while in office which we as a nation now own, can we somehow pass an undo and distance ourselves from it? I guess part of the purpose of the Electoral Collage is to provide a ultimate say regardless of the vote, and can act like a circuit breaker if the vote goes bad, so are we stuck with such a unelected and unelectable buffoon in our line of presidents for as long as our nation exists?
Yes, unless you can prove he committed fraud in 2016, and even then, I don’t think it would make any real difference at this point.
Unfortunately, nothing can be done to reverse it.
If a fraudulent president were still in office, he can be kicked out by 2/3 of the Senate, but once he’s left office, what has happened has happened. Maybe he would do prison time, but nothing will reverse his already-existing presidency years.
As for whether the bills that he signed into law would really count as law - that’s an interesting question. It would probably have to be punted to the Supreme Court to decide.
The new regime can always implement its own policies. Also eg note after WW2 the Allies had to get a horde of lawyers to go through every German law to get rid of all the Nazi stuff. Not sure what you mean about election fraud, but the time to contest election fraud is before you accept the election results, not afterwards.
Once a president is sworn in (or when confirmed by Congress) they’re the president. For better or worse, there are no backsies.
It’s important to remember that, if the polls predict a 60% chance of something happening, and that thing doesn’t happen, that doesn’t mean the polls were wrong.
The 2016 election was investigated for fraud, and none was found.
Of course, it was Trump Toadies doing the investigation, so take that as you will.
For the larger question, even if proof was found at this late date, there’s not much that would happen, at least not automatically. The past is the past, and for better or worse, he was sworn in as the de facto president, and so his actions still carried weight as president. You’d have to pass laws and/or write new Executive Orders to undo everything he did, and deal with the political problems that entails. Some of that has happened under Biden, and what’s been accomplished so far is probably the best you can expect. New information about the 2016 election probably wouldn’t make much difference.
Yup, we’re stuck with him in the history roll.
As much as I dislike Trump, and feel that his administration was a toxic stain on our country, I don’t believe that there was election fraud at any significant level. I do strongly believe that bad actors used social media to manipulate voters, and their opinions.
Whether Trump and his campaign were, themselves, directly working with the bad actors is something that has been investigated; I suspect that there was some level of collaboration/collusion, but it may never be proven.
Note that the polls did not indicate that Clinton would win going away; most polls showed it as a very close race, and it came down to a relatively small number of votes in swing states – the result was well within the margin of error of those polls. At that point, I think that voter enthusiasm and turnout is what made the difference.
Election fraud, no. Possible election manipulation, yes. I’m still upset with the FBI director making statements about Hillary Clinton just days before the election. It was highly inappropriate for a government agency to interject itself into the election at that point in time.
The fact that James Comey did not politically profit from this isn’t surprising considering how TFG rewards and treats his loyal lackeys.
The Russian involvement in manipulating the election was also there. The fact that the TFG played along with it is appalling to say the least.
Once the electoral college votes, that’s the end of the process. Even TFG understood that, although many of his followers don’t.
Pardon my idiocy.
TFG?

The Former Guy, aka Cheeto Faced Shit Gibbon, aka Donald Trump.
I believe “the former guy” is the phrase used by Joe Biden to refer to He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named.
Oh, MUCH nicer than what I thought it could be!

This.
The integrity of the election was fine. It’s much easier to propagandize voters into voting against their best interests than to actually mess with ballots and voting machines. Propaganda is sure good for casting doubt on the process, though!
I would strike the word, “possible.” The manipulation by Russia in 2016 was a widespread, focused subversion campaign and there is no doubt about it. Worked, too. Maybe even better than Putin hoped.
People are already forgetting the polls also claimed a landslide Joe Biden victory in 2020 with him being favored in taking Florida and other states that went to Trump. Granted the Democrats did win all 3 branches but it wasn’t the blowout that had been predicted.
But what if the illegitimate president had made SCOTUS appointments, wouldn’t those be subject to scrutiny? A do-over maybe?
If a rigorous investigation revealed flaws in how the election process works in a favorable atmosphere for rectifying said flaws–net benefit for us all, I’d think. I always think it’s a really good idea to let people chew into information–I’ve seen some of the weird yet impressive shit Reddit has managed to do via crowdsourced hypermind so yeah, identify problems when you have the ability to DO something about them, where’s the downside?
Presidents do a lot more than appoint judges to the Supreme Court.
They appoint other judges, other public officials and sign bills into law.
Do you want a four gap in everything, and everything all those judges and officials to be set aside, and four years worth of laws to be undone?
What’s done is done.
