What is the difference between a “ml”, and a “mgs”? And if you can answer that one, what is the conversion of “mgs” (liquid) to teaspoons? And what are you doing this “gloomy” Sunday morning? Found this ancient Family recipe. And I do mean ancient! Give me a correct answer. you might get a taste!
1 milliliter = 1000 milligrams of water.
1 US teaspoon = 4.9 milliliters
Cooks don’t usually measure things in milligrams, but there’s no other common measure that’s abbreviated mgs.
Welcome to the boards, zudij.
I’ve moved your question to our forum for cooking, Cafe Society.

I have to tell you how confussed I am! Did I do something wrong? There was a message saying, “I cant post anymore questions, or receive any more replies”. This would lead me to believe I DID do something wrong. My intentions were not so! I was looking for help, & found myself directed to your site. One very sweet person did try to help. I wasnt even aware there was a “cooking forum” !
Thank you for your “help”. Zudij
Flagged for samclem to reply.
Um, isn’t that 1 milliliter = 1 milligram of water?
Don’t worry. You’re fine. We don’t actually have a separate cooking forum, it goes in Cafe Society because cooking is classified as an “art”, with us.
Welcome to the SDMB, by the way!
And a milligram would be 1/1000th of a gram, which in turn is 1/1000 of a kilogram.
1 kilogram = 1000 grams
1 gram = 1000 milligrams
“Milli” usually is a thousandth part of something, and “kilo” is one thousand somethings.
D’oh! :smack: :smack: :smack:
Of course that’s not right. One ml is defined as equal to one gram of water! Oh for dumb!
Forgot to drink your orange juice today, didn’t you!
No. The mods just like to move cooking threads over to Cafe Society.
Supposedly they get more cooks looking at them that way.
The message you saw was probably just some odd board glitch. The hamsters that run the server are prone to having little fits of insanity.
Here’s an excellent cooking conversion site: http://www.epicurean.com/calc/index.html
You’re fine. As others have said, we just like to keep cooking threads here.
AS Squink said, the board must have had a glitch. I didn’t do anything. I promise.

I cant thank you enough! I never thought anyone would reply. This is the BEST CHART I have found, or you found! The Party was last night and I cheated and bought a wonderful, SO FULL of hateful calories!!!, YUMMY concoction from this Fab Bakery! I couldnt even lie and say I made it. They know me and would be afarid to taste it! It was a big hit and everyone enjoyed my story of searching the Net for a “Conversion Chart” that made NO SENSE to any person there! It still was an experience trying to find it, and I got to meet you and someother very sweet, real “CHEFS”. Maybe someday you could send me a recipe you’d give to your 10 yr old, very “slow”, “Little Sis”. Although she could probobly out-cook me anyday! There’s just something about slaving over a hot stove, chopping, tons of dishes to wash,(yes, I do have a dishwasher, dont interupt!) ,then you eat! In less the a half an hour, all that hard work is GONE! The problem COULD be, I do LOVE to eat! BUT, that’s what restaurants are for! And “take-out”, I can order w/the best of them! Friends that LOVE to cook are always welcome. So, you see, there’s an answer to every question. If your lucky enough to meet a new friend(?), then that’s just an added bonus! Much thanks, Zudij
