Keep in mind, though, that although San Francisco is universally considered to be northern California, in fact it lies barely more than halfway up the California coastline. The far northern reaches of California are thinly populated and pretty much a different world compared to the cities that most people think of when they think of California.
Not only does Canada extend farther south than many people realize, a substantial portion of Canadians live in southern Canada.
Check out this map. Half of Canada’s population lives below the red line.
Opportunities are available in all walks of life in Australia. So if you’re young and if you’re healthy, why not get a boat and come to Australia? The chance of a lifetime, you get what you work for. Nobody has to be any better than they want to be.

Winter in southern Ontario will be stunningly unpleasant to a person from the United Kingdom. A winter in Kitchener may not be as bad as a winter in Kirkland Lake but it makes Southampton look like Montego Bay. I assure any British planning on moving here that you will need warmer clothes and learn how to scrape ice off a car.
This past winter was amazingly mild, but there were still days when it didn’t get above -10. And not all winters will be amazingly mild. The average temperature in Toronto in January and February is -3, about six degrees colder than London and much more variable.
Why would you share that? Opinions of strangers from primarily the US are surely much more informative. Especially those who want to compare the weather in Canada to California.
OP, the UK produced Churchill, Queen Elizabeth, The Beatles, and Monty Python, and countless other great things before it joined the EU. The kingdom will be just fine. If I were you I’d see how things go for a few months first.
Let’s not overdo this… The average temperature in Eureka, CA in January is 56/41. The average temperature in Windsor, ON in January is 30/19.
I had the pleasure of living in Windsor for a few years, and having spent more time living all over California, there is NO comparison - and the weather definitely IS terribly different.
Well, yes, yes, of course, but other than Churchill, Queen Elizabeth, The Beatles, and Monty Python, and countless other great things, what has the U.K. ever done for us!?!?!?
Plum pudding?
There’s also the fact that Eureka is on the Pacific coast, a rather different weather zone than the Great Lakes lowlands.
I mean, Ontario is nothing at all like Vancouver, BC, which obviously is even further north than Eureka.
Keep Calm and <insert activity here>?
How would you know that given the point that they are strangers?
Woooosh! Understanding sarcasm must not be your strongpoint. Your link should have been quite informative for the OP, as opposed to many of the people that were posting in this thread, which was about immigrating from the UK to Australia, but was hijacked into a thread about comparing the weather in Canada to California.
Woosh Woosh…
Well, I am one of those strangers.
