Not Yelling Fire

So, in my six years in Chicago I’ve worked in both The Sears Tower and The Hancock building.

On at least three ocassions, I’ve had co-workers inform me that were either of these Giant Buildings to catch on fire or have a bomb threat that none of the occupants would be informed. This ‘authorities’ claim that it would be impossible to evacuate a building of that size safely, and it would be best to just try to contain the fire or bomb and not panic the residents.

This strikes me as exquisite and illegal bullshit, but haven’t been able to locate proof either way.

Any ideas as to whether this is true? Because if so, I’m never setting foot in either building again.
