Beauty in Walking Away - Marie Digby
Frank Sinatra - “I Wish You Love.” Generally a positive song, rather than a tearjerker. Here are some of the lyrics:
“Pushit” by Tool.
Not the Usual = “Red Rubber Ball” (can’t post link from work). It has an up-tempo, bouncy beat underlaced with a rather bitter lyric.
Usual but very good = “Dreaming with a Broken Heart” by John Meyer
The Breakup Song by Greg Khin Band.
aw a aw aw a aw aw aw.
“Love Song” by Tesla might fit for your situation.
“One More MInute” by “Weird Al”?
I saw the thread title and I came in to say
“Still Alive” (GLaDOS)… it will not be quite appropriate for the kind of mix you want to make (which I also concur is a bad idea), but it’s sort of about recovering after a breakup. Sort of.
(And, um, if my husband and I ever broke up and wanted to remain friends and I wanted to give him a mix tape, this would so be on it, but we’re weird.)
Harper Simon’s "Berkeley Girl"would be good for this, I think.
She is juniper and roses
Guess I’ll sing it once again
And though we are no longer lovers
I know she’ll always be my friend
Fountain Of Sorrow & I’m Alive - Jackson Browne
<bittersweet smile> The actual breakup was in November. We’ve already had that come up. And you’re right, it was hurtful and ugly but I hope we’ve moved on. We’ll see.
This is more like where we are. Without getting into a lot of details, it will not work out for us. This is for the best for both of us in the long run, but she feels awful for wanting out. I’m feeling pain the depth of which I have never felt before, but I will be OK. We both are hurting and just like we shared the journey of falling in love, we are also sharing the journey of letting go.
Thanks everyone, I’m off to Google a boatload of lyrics. Even if I never give her the mix it’s helpful to me to create it.
<still crying>
‘Over Time’, Lucinda Williams
…I guess out of the blue
You won’t cross my mind
And I’ll get over you
Over time
Lover’s Cross–Jim Croce
“The Dance” by Garth Brooks
“Ain’t Understanding Mellow,” Jerry Butler & Brenda Lee Eager
“So Very Hard To Go,” Tower of Power
“Make It Easy On Yourself,” The Walker Brothers
(((Ruby))) This is exactly where my ex-SO and I are too. Its not going to work out for us in the long-run, he feels awful for wanting out, loves me still, but long-term it won’t work. Thanks for starting the thread… It helps. And many many hugs to you.
“The Way it is” also by Tesla
Even though we could never seem to work things out
I still love you just the same
I miss your smile and that sparkle in your eyes
You’re so beautiful, never change
Maybe “It Ain’t No Use” (Stevie Wonder)?
“Birds” by Neil Young… But check out Linda Ronstadts version.
“Somewhere there’s Feather Falling” by Nico… Which I believe was written by Jackson Browne.
2 of the best ever non-bitter but sad breakup tunes.
