notation in sunday's foxtrot

In today’s foxtrot there’s a sudoku puzzle. One of the squares has FF-F8 in it. What’s this mean? In my paper the i looked like a 2 so I didn’t get that one either until I saw it online.

Hexadecimal notation. The hexadecimal system goes 0123456789ABCDEF.

(hex)FF-F8=
(dec)255-248=

7 in both

:smack: Duh.

Oh, and you KNOW that someone somewhere is going to actually try to solve that puzzle…

I’m doing so right now. Doesn’t seem to be too hard, I’ll post when I do.

Finished, probably about a thursday level difficulty. Pretty off topic though. Hmm.

Would you mind posting your solution?

… and the answers have to be in the same style as the clues.

Actually, I was hoping he’d show us the answer to the equations. Some are pretty simple (square root of 16, cube root of 27); others are WAY over my head!

HeyHomie, who quit taking math classes after Geometry his junior year of high school.

From left to right, top to bottom (I don’t feel like using markup for exponentials):
Spoilered in case someone doesn’t want to see.

3+4 = 7
(1/3)^-1 = 3
3^2 = 9
sqrt(16) = 4
sqrt(81) = 9
0100 = 4
d/dx 3x = 3
3 Int_2_1(x2dx) = 7
3! = 6
2^3 = 8
2^2 = 4
24/8 = 3
Sum_1_3(k) = 6
252/36 = 7
log10(10) = 1
sqrt(4) = 2
74-65 = 9
0101 = 5
Triangle side = 5
-(i^2) = 1
0110 = 6
FF-F8 = 7
sqrt(64) = 8
Trigangle side = 3
3rt(27) = 3
3rt(64) = 4
sin(pi/2) = 1
sqrt(49) = 7
I didn’t check my work at all. If it looks like I made a mistake, I probably did.
