I think everyone is being pretty hard on Nothing Special. At first I disagreed with his position, but I think I’ve seen the light. Last night I was really bothered by something, some glimmer of truth in his/her arguments, so bothered that I couldn’t sleep. I got up and tried some soul-searching, I could feel the issue just below my consiousness like a piece of sand in an oyster that can’t be expelled. I decided to meditated for an hour and suddenly the full realization hit me, like I was shot… like I was shot with a diamond… a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God… the genius of that!

Still, not a very great idea on your behalf. The people responding to our little trollish friend here have read the same posts you have, and have either decided that he is not, in fact, a troll (in which case they’ll ignore your instructions to ignore him as inapplicable) or they think he is a troll, but want to poke him anyway to see what happens (in which case they’ll ignore your insructions as no fun.) Pitting him does nothing to realize your goal. All it does is introduce him to more Dopers who will either follow your instructions to ignore him (small gain, as they were already “ignoring” him because they’d never heard of him) or who will react in one of the two ways I described above. The net effect of these sorts of threads is always going to be to generate more interest and attention to the putative troll. If you really want people to ignore him, the only thing you can do is to ignore him yourself. Any other action only makes the problem worse.
Note: This was shamelessly stolen from a low-budget family film some of you may know that employed some small time actors and director, but I didn’t want to clutter up my post by giving credit where credit should be given. So now I did.
