I’m curious to see what Dopers think of this investigation. My local newspaper (Newsday) re-reported the story, but they didn’t explain what evidence had led to this conclusion. Is this for real?
If so, it certainly makes me dislike biggie, who was previously one of my favorite rappers. I’m not sure whether I’ll still listen to his music, but I doubt it. What do the Dopers think?
I’m kind of surprised that the Notorious BIG was involved in the murder. I always had the impression of him (and a lot of other rappers) that they more or less all talk. I guess I was wrong, although it wasn’t like he actually did the shooting or even came up with the idea or anything. Apparantely it would have happened with or without his million dollars.
I wonder if Puff Daddy was also involved or knew about the murder. If so, he would be one of the few people still alive who could possibly be broght to justice. Wallace and the shooter, Orlando Anderson, are both dead. I would love to see Puff Daddy go away.
utter bullcrap. Some crip loser sold this story to the Times. If you got a million bucks would you be dead in a gang related shooting three years later? No fuggin’ way.
B.I.G. may have been involved, but this story is bullshit.
FWIW, I lean toward zen101’s take on this…I bet it is someone is just yanking the LATimes around. But, I really don’t care that much either way.
What we need now is a good north-south rap feud to get rid of more crappy rappers. Someone go tell Jay-Z that Master P said that he had stinky breath.
According to the story, Biggie never payed the whole money. Just paid $50,000 before he was killed…so 50k divided among however many people were in on it isn’t that much when it comes down to it.
You might want to actually read the Los Angeles Times story before you all go shooting your mouths off, but apparently that would be too much work, as it would let horrible things like “facts” get in the way and destroy your little arguemnt.
I don’t have a hard time believing the story, seeing as how big the whole “gangsta rap,” thing was back in the early 1990’s. Once again it seems to be a case of a police departments fuck up more then anything else.
Oh yeah, in case you did want to read the LA Times article, you have to register, but it’s free, so it’s not that big of a hassle.
sam: Simple, if the person had gotten the million he would have split the “hood” and set up elsewhere. Gangsters may be idiots but they are seldom stupid enough to hang out with other gangsters if they have that kind of money. Having said that, I doubt seriously that BIG would have ever agreed to pay that much for a hit. The guy sold rock for a number of years and was well aware of the going rate for a contract killing.
WSLer: Eat me. I haven’t the time to register with the Times just to read details that should be posted if indeed they pertain to the subject at hand. Not to mention that the LA Times is a rag anyhow and their use of “fact” is limited to what can’t be disproven easily and is sure to sell copy. Cop that `tude elsewhere byatch. Your knowledge of gangster raps popularity aside you know precisely dick about the reality of the biz. I bet you think Eazy E and Dr. Dre were really violent enemies too? Hey, you know Ston Cold really tried to kill HHH too, I saw it on the tee vee!
