Novelty Songs post-1984

I’m going to put together a “name that tune” game for an upcoming party. My theme will be Novelty Songs. I was able to come up with a whole slew of them off the top of my head.

Problem is, 95% of them are pre-1984. My pop music tastes run to oldies and classic rock, so I’m at a loss for more recent Novelty Songs. Please help be expand my range for my party game.

For the purposes of my game a Novelty Song does not necessarily need to be an out-and-out parody, but something either done in fun or became a piece of popular culture above and beyond a mere song.

I chose 1984 as the cut-off date, b/c I’m familiar with The Homecoming Queen’s Got a Gun by Julie Brown, and that’s as good a cut-off as anything else. So please provide examples released AFTER that one. Older songs I’ve got covered, believe me.

I’ve only come up with a few on my own:
Who Let the Dogs Out (early 2000s)–Baha Men
The Second Week of Deer Camp (1990s)–Da Yoopers
–various choices from Ray Stevens and Weird Al Yankovic, so I’m set there.

What else is out there?

I personally would regard the Macarena (1996) as a novelty song. YMMV.

[ETA: scratched my reference to Weird Al, didn’t initially see the OP had him covered]

2000 - Because I Got High, by Afroman
2002 - The Ketchup Song, by Las Ketchup

and there’s the Dr. Demento website.

Gangnam Style.

“What Does the Fox Say?” is the most recent novelty hit I can think of.

“Star Trekkin’” is a good one and came out in 1987.

Morris Minor and the Majors - Stutter Rap circa 1988. Got play on Much Music for a couple of months and charted:No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart,[1] No. 14 in Canada and No. 2 in Australia <– from Wikipedia.

“If I Had a Million Dollars”, The Barenaked Ladies

It’s about time for Adam Sandler’s The Chanukah Song to hit the airwaves again.

Does “The Hampster Dance” count as a song? It did end up on the Billboard charts.

“Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” and “Particle Man” by They Might Be Giants.

Which brings to mind King of Spain - Moxy Fruvous

You can’t go wrong with Baz Luhrmann’s 1999 hit Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen).

And his Thanksgiving Song… Hey, and on the same day this year!

Anything by The Lonely Island (Dick in a Box, Jizz in my Pants, etc.)

Don’t Worry Be Happy

The Thong Song

Parents Just Don’t Understand

Fight for your Right to Party

1984 - *We All Stand Together (The Frog Chorus), *Paul McCartney
1985 - You Spin Me Round, Youthquake
1991 - I’m Too Sexy, Right Said Fred
1993 - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm, Crash Test Dummies
1998 - One Week, Barenaked Ladies
1999 - Thong Song, Sisqo
2000 - The Bad Touch, Bloodhound Gang
2004 - 1985, Bowling for Soup

1991 - Baby Got Back, Sir Mix-A-Lot
1997 - Barbie Girl, Aqua

Oh, these are some good ones! At least the ones I’m familiar with. Thanks.

I do think the Macarena qualifies as a novelty. Adam Sandler; Star Trekkin’, of course. Gangnam Style is certainly a phenomenon, if not a novelty, but I think i’ll include it. It will at least give my wife (who is Korean) a chance to get one correct answer!

…I think I’ll have to You Tube many of these…

I’m not sure what to call it, since it’s much less of a parody than the origonal, but there’s Public Enemy’s Party for Your Right to Fight.

The entire discography of Flight Of The Conchords.

Three Little Pigs by Green Jellÿ somehow reached #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1993.
