We’re laughing at the guy who advertised the book as being about the “submarine” Spitfire. He was consistant in his mistake, too.

Yep, I made that mistake as a kid too ! Fwiw, I’ve very occasionally chanced to hear a Rolls-Royce Merlin overhead (Queenie celebration, usually) or at an air show … for those who haven’t heard it, that throaty cacophony really is something. And that’s before I look up or over to see where the noise comes from … just a beautiful, wonderful sight, ‘submarine’ or otherwise
