Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

Or he’s trying to move to some Galt’s Gulch scenario where only the rich guy remains to control everything and all the workers are forced to suffer elsewhere without the rich guy’s majestic presence to bask in.

The nickname came about initially from a typo. Someone was talking about “Elmo” and others asked what the fuck they were talking about, and then they clarified that it was a mistake. Then there were Elmo/Elon jokes. So now it’s a board inside joke.

It’s not because people looked far and wide for the most scathing insult possible and came up with it. It was a funny accident that tickled people here.

It started here:

I don’t believe that was a typo. The name Elmo has been adopted by many, including twitter employees.

First reference I see for it is from back in May.

I thought it was, based on the apology. Maybe I misread the situation.

Elmo? El-no!

My preferred EM nickname is “Space Karen”.

I don’t think Musk being Randian and Burnhamian is mutually exclusive; there’s no particular reason he can’t be both.

Probably not from directly reading either - Rand because Atlas Shrugged is 40 pages of plot stretched to 1000 with interminably bad dialogue, and Burnham because almost no one reads 80-year-old books, but he probably had some IDW type tweet it at him and thought ‘that fits with my lived experience as someone who had emeralds stuck in his pockets in his early 20s’

I genuinely believe this 1996 novel about a CEO who, using the latest in Libertarian-Liberation theology, builds a space industry because of her drive to save humanity, has been read by every major techbro in the US:

Or at least they’ll tell everyone they’ve read it, right?

I was apologizing for using a reference that wasn’t as universally well know as I thought it was.

Elon said that he was proving he was in favor of free speech by not touching the account of the guy who is tracking his flights. Well now, the account is suspended. And you can’t link from Twitter to his Instagram page.
Twitter is selling off tons of equipment from its San Francisco HQ.
Twitter buildings all over the world are refusing to pay their rent.
Elon said that people should vote for Republicans, but he didn’t vote.

If only more Republicans took that advice…

Back again, at least for the moment.

Nice Twitter account you have there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.

Now that the threat is explicit, what’s the quid to go with the pro quo?

Banned again, along with a new rule that absolutely definitely wasn’t created to retroactively justify it.

Elonjet is now on Mastodon.

…Twitter glitching for me way-more than it has since ever today: and the last three weeks have been pretty buggy. I can’t open the site in incognito mode at all. Videos not displaying correctly. Not being able to see large proportions of replies (this bug has been around for weeks.)

And the reason why I wanted to check Twitter in incognito was because I had locked down my account, but I had just posted a reply to someone (who wasn’t following me) which should have triggered a warning that “the person I was responding too wouldn’t be able to see what I wrote” but it didn’t, so I wanted to make sure that my account was still locked, but I couldn’t check.

So I checked Twitter from a different browser: and my tweet wasn’t viewable, which is a good thing. But I kept scrolling down the page and Twitter v2 has a new feature called “more tweets” which suggests other tweets you might be interested in (based on who you follow and your likes, etc. When I’m logged in, the “more tweets” feature kinda works okay. But when you aren’t logged in? The first tweet I saw was a scantily clad anime girl, followed by a tweet from “shirts that go hard” with an image of a hat that said “hor NY”, and I didn’t want to scroll down any further.

Just a lot of little things that aren’t quite right. And we all know that there aren’t enough staff behind the scenes to fix it.

I prefer Muskmelon, but that’s not bad.

Seems fairly predictable. Surprised the genius didn’t see that coming.

Elmo has sold another 22 million Tesla shares this week.
