Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

Well, maybe not. I just clicked on links in a Twitter email. The first one opened normally; the other links opened with a sign in banner at the bottom and when I tried I got a circle of doom. Hit refresh and ditto. Clicked the log out option, tried to log back in, and got a blank white box with more circle of doom. Went to the tab with the one correctly opened page, hit refresh, and voila! The sign in/log out banner popped up for that page too. Tried Googling Twitter for log in, used my proper email/password, and landed on an error page.

Maybe it’s just me. Or maybe something broke and there’s nobody left to fix it.

Oops. Looks like it’s not just me (need to disable Adblock but then you can read it). That’s a bummer; there are a few people I follow on that platform and I’ll miss being able to read their tweets.

ETA: Wow, click on the Downdetector link in that article – starting around 5:00 p.m. things began going seriously bad and the spike rise is incredible.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnnnnnnnnnnnd now it’s back, apparently working fine.

For now…

I’m not sure I agree with this. The Tesla owners I know skew conservative, seeing it a bit as a fancy status symbol plaything. The survey I could find says Tesla owner do skew left, but not by much: 38% Democrat to 30% Republican, as reported here:

I don’t at all think of the Tesla brand as some latte liberal Birkenstock “save the Earth” brand, but cool technology for people with money. It may be skewed by the Tesla owners I know, but the surveys suggest it’s not just my impression.

…LOL. So this just happened.

It just logged me out and won’t let me log in again. :: sigh ::

Somewhere in San Francisco Elmo is unplugging servers one at a time to try and figure out what each one does.

Clearly part of the 17D chess game Musk is playing.

He should probably fire some more people.

Er… about that

Right now I can access the site on my phone but not sign in. #TwitterDown is currently the top trend and people are saying it’s inaccessible on desktop.

Elmo’s most recent tweets are all about how Dr. Fauci invented covid.

I just got an error message when I tried to log in, then when I tried again, I got in.

I just had no problems sending a tweet, but I’m not a regular user.

Don’t worry. I have on good authority from the Muskrats that Musk only trimmed away the bad employees, and only the high-quality superstars are left. And besides Musk is a genius. I’m sure he doesn’t need any real help to figure out the problem. He’s probably in the code right now fixing it.

On an unrelated note, Elmo really doesn’t understand this whole pronouns thing he’s so mad about.

It let me log in eventually, but within 60 seconds it logged me out again.

Well, (a) whatever he is it’s not what the general norm of the population is, and (b) that tweet sure makes it sounds like he does not quite understand what “cis” means.

…so I was forced into changing my password, which kicked me out of the Android App. So when I logged back into the Android App its treating me like its my “first time here” and helpfully walking me through the process on how the twitter interface works.

Thanks Elon!

I suspect it varies a LOT by where you are. In northern CA, driving a Tesla signals “I’m a righteous lefty tree-hugger.” Here is southern FL it signals: “I have fuck-you money and love the Rs’s tax cuts, plus the subsidy paid for by mere proles that I got for buying this rich person’s play toy. Subsidies paid from poor to rich: as it should be.”

Here in China it signals the same about having money, and it’s a great way to save money on license fees and wait times for the license plate lottery.

Here in MA I only know two Tesla owners, and both are Romney Republicans…right, but not necessarily crazy.
