Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

If that happens, then I rescind my offer to declare him a genius and savior of humanity.

Elon Musk wasted a minimum of $20 billion in capital because he was afraid of the Woke Mind Virus, Sam. He is a splendid example of a Freakout of the Right, thank you!

And go ahead and start your thread with Freakouts of the Left. It’s a free board… for those not scared of it. Sam.

Her join date is December 20th, 1999. A year and eleven days is reasonably close to “a year” for all but the most serious pedants.

Do we really want social media killed? I mean, this right here is social media. So is Youtube, even wikipedia.

The alternative is going back to exclusive control of the media by corporations.

It’s not the few days between Dec 20th and Jan 1st. It’s the question of whether the 21st century began in 2000 or 2001.

Wait, which one are you saying it started on? The obviously correct 2001, or the entirely foolish 2000 that’s only promoted by criminals and foreign agents?

I appreciate your wonderfully ironic endorsement of the fact that the entirely arbitrary start date was obviously when the entire world celebrated it.

Quoting my own post that generated the last blast of outrage in this thread.

Somehow, people took from this that I didn’t know the Onion was satire. But that wasn’t the point. All I was saying was that it’s pretty common to get fired if you diss your company in public while making it clear your are associated with the company, It happens all the time. It wasn’t a direct rebuttal to obvious satire, just something I wanted to point out.

And it’s true, and relatively on-point. But of course the peoole here will choose the least defensible interpretation, then others will take it farther, and before you know it I’m a liar who is so stupid that I don’t even know the Onion is satire, and can you believe it? There he goes again! and then this episode will be used in the future as further evidence that I am not to be trusted.

I get the game. I understand the partisan motive and the tactics. We aren’t debating in good faith - you are picking apart the ‘others’ posts for anything that can be used to attack and belittle them, so you can ‘win’ and get high fives from your fellow pit denizens. It’s sad and tribal, but true.

You all think you are sophisticated thinkers, but at least in the pit you are just a tribe of howler monkeys waiting to fling poo at the other side so the other monkeys will like you.

Yeah, not my style. I’d rather debate ideas and fun things than participate in another tedious attack on the ‘other’. No one learns a thing, it alienates potential members of the board, ruins people’s moods, and there’s already enough toxic shit on the internet if that’s what floats your boat.

The part where you said:

If “in this case” was not referring to the Onion article, then what are you claiming it was referring to?

You think you are a martyr for a cause, but you are a rebel without a clue.

Just admit you made a mistake, you’ll feel better afterwards.

Up next, a reading of A Modest Proposal, followed by a TEDTalk from Sam Stone on how cannibalism is bad, actually.

I’m reading elsewhere that Russian bots are posting recruitment videos on Twitter from the Wagner Group, aimed at American vets. And that Twitter won’t take them down.

Anyone see any?

Edited… off topic.

My response can be found here:

Quadrupling down. Wow. Good luck with that.

It’s tuples all the way down!

Now, now, @Kimstu, you should eschew violence in favor of nonviolent protest, just like Ghandi and Marten Luthier King.

<ducks and flees, grinning>

Looking forward to this totally reliable promise which is 100% not a bald faced lie and a totally accurate understanding of how open source works!

I have said in the past if Musk had bought Twitter only to immediately shut it down I would at least grudgingly respect him for that. This death by a thousand cuts under the guise of “fixing” Twitter is worse by every metric.

Oh Jesus, Elmo and Derek Smart having a twit together. I’m not sure which one to be more cringed out by, which one is more narcissistic, or which one holds the record for the most time spent trying to puff themselves up on social media instead of doing their damn job.

Oh yeah, just as a reminder, wasn’t Elmo going to step down as Twitter’s CEO? Anyone want to take bets on which will take longer, Elmo stepping down or the time it took for Battlecruiser 3000 to be released in a working state?
