…
And I played a mean Lady of Spain.
We got my grandmother Welk’s autobiography (Ah-One, Ah-Two!: Life with My Musical Family by Lawrence Welk | Goodreads) when it was in hardback in 1974 - I think I read it, because it was on paper, and within reach (my criteria for reading a book). If you were in 3rd grade in 1982, you’re a young pup (born when I was in 3rd grade or so).
Just like Myron Floren. You’re welcome.
You can no longer search for Taylor Swift on Twitter because people were using the platform to distribute AI deepfake porn of her.

Remember that dog poop toothpaste ad I posted a while back? I’ve blocked so many fucking weird ads, this is where I am now. Mysteriously, replies have been disabled.
One thing I loved was that before they did this, tons of Swifties posted wholesome pictures and video of her with that hashtag, in order to bury the other ones.
The bastards who do that sort of shit should be locked up. Imagine that was your child.
I’m ashamed to be a member of the same god damed species who are capable of it.
Not directly about Elmo, but since he’s so enamored of social media that he paid $44 billion to be the Grand Poobah of Xitter, I found the article below relevant. Rats could add substantially to the Xitter user base, allowing Elmo to claim tremendous growth in new Xitter signups, although a high proportion of the new users would mainly be posting pictures of … well, rats. Rats have no money AFAIK, so maybe Elmo could give them complimentary blue checkmarks.
Is it a bad thing that I kind of want the Caesar pen holder?
Taylor Swift is a child?
She’s still their child to her parents.
She’s also an adult, and a very public figure.
Look, making pornographic images of celebrities is as old as the graphic-based internet, and photorealistic images of celebs having sex are as old as Photoshop. I’m sure you’re familiar with Rule 34, right? Swift is the biggest celebrity in the world right now, so obviously there is going to be more porn featuring her than anyone else. It’s just how things work. The time to ban celebrity porn was 30 years ago, not now.
Deepfake porn is illegal in the UK and in several US states.
Did you misread that as an accusation of child porn? Because that’s not what it was about.
What does that have to do with anything? That matters for libel and the like, not sexual abuse.
Your fallacy is: Appeal to Common Practice, and no, it is never too late to do the right thing. Ask the #MeToo Movement.
I SO wish I knew how to do deepfakes. Ever since I heard of them I’ve wanted to do deepfakes of Barack Obama doing Donald Trump speeches; the outrage of the MAGAhat crowd at hearing the exact same ideas they support coming from Obama would he hilarious.
Unfortunately, cutting edge tech has gotten co-opted for porn since the first cave drawings.
To paraphrase a line from Coupling, prehistoric man invented fire so he could look at naked bottoms in the dark.
I just wanted to make sure a highly successful, intelligent and independent artist and businesswoman wasn’t being infantilized.
For private, non-celebrity individuals, Deepfake and its ilk are definitely a form of harassment and abuse. For a billionaire mega-celebrity, it’s… background noise. It’s so far beneath their notice that it’s not even worth commenting on. When billions of people are talking about you, some of them are bound to say disgusting things.
In the end, it’s about power. In this case, like it or not, it’s the pornographers who are punching up.
It’s not so much common practice as much as how at this point, it’s impossible to get the genie back in the bottle.
Look, I’m no fan of this type of porn - I think this shit is disgusting. But just because something squicks me out, I’m not sure it should be illegal.
I’m not sure if making it illegal would do anything about it - but let celebrities sue the pornographers into oblivion, and that might make them stop using their likenesses.
If X were being inundated with fake Elon Musk porn, would you think the same?
I’m sorry, but I’m not rooting for the 0.1% here.
