The SDMB, squinting at Elmo:
It’s both, of course
If it gets traction, clearly he was being serious
If not, only idiots would think he was being serious.
Shrodinger’s social media post. It’s whatever he wants or needs it to be depending on context. And all the while, people keep engaging with him and making him feel important, which is the real win.
But unlike Schrödinger’s cat, his social media posts are firmly entrenched in a dizzying superposition of “I’m very serious here” and “HAHA I TROLL U”, and the harder you look, the more you can’t tell which it is.
Apropos of nothing: I think he’s creepy and grubby looking based on his “fuck off” temper tantrum/appearance. He looked like he hadn’t showered in a while. Though, I suppose if you’re going to behave like a slob you may as well look like one.
I think it’s more like, if you have enough money people will compliment you and hold their breath no matter how bad you stink.
Annnnd if your famous they’ll let you…well you know.
To be fair, this is largely the point. If he says something dumb that he gets dunked on for he can launder it as “just trolling.” If he says something dumb that people like, then obviously he was being serious.
It’s a symptom of being incapable of telling what is dumb and what is smart.
Incapable of telling which, or incapable of caring which?
From our POV as the public the appearance is the same. In terms of what it means for Elmo’s future trajectory and what that does to the rest of us, it might matter yugely.
A whole article on Elon’s absurd claims about the Tesla Roadster, including “0-60 in less than a second”…
Who doesn’t want to pull 3 gs on the way to the grocery store
It’s leaving the grocery store with unsecured groceries that might be more interesting.
“Hang on, sweetie. Mommy’s putting the hammer down!”
“Mom, why does the yogurt taste like cole slaw?”
“Sorry honey, your father took the Saturn to work, and I had to drive the Tesla to the supermarket.”
From the article:
Of course, Musk isn’t expecting to rely solely on tires for wild acceleration. The tweet last night mentioning “Tesla/SpaceX collab” likely refers to rockets; back in 2018, the self-proclaimed Technoking tweeted this:
SpaceX option package for new Tesla Roadster will include ~10 small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around car. These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering. Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly …
Why am I reminded of the plans to modify a C-130 to be able to land and take off from a sports stadium in the middle of Tehran as part of the never executed second attempt at rescuing the Iranian hostages?
It actually did work. And could work. It would likely work better now, using a computer to time the rocket ignition (which is what cause the crash in testing).
But Elmo is still an idiot. 0-60 in under a second is almost top fuel acceleration. (a top fuel 0-60 is like 0.6 seconds. What is that? 7gs?)
The Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ) has actually done it, but with a tiny little car (300 lb/137 kg) that used active aero in the form of fans pulling the car down onto the road surface for max traction.
Tom Scott got to drive it (the lucky bastard!).
I am reminded of a 1967 Chevy Impala with an aftermarket Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO) rocket attached, as seen on early USENET urban legend emails. JATO Rocket Car - Wikipedia

That, Breyer said, is “one of the most vapid extensions of law that I’ve ever heard…. ‘Oh, what’s foreseeable is that things can change, and therefore, if there’s a change, it’s foreseeable.’ I mean, that argument is truly, is truly remarkable.”
It’s probably a pig-slaughter scam.
About 9 out of 10 of my recent followers are fake, based on today’s count. That doesn’t include former followers who have had their accounts cancelled. While some of the fakers are porn-bots, most of them are either placeholders or pig slaughterers. I’m guessing mostly the latter. I-yi-yi.
