Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

2 fanbois? LOL

The “self driving is decades away” thread is completely taken over by people bragging about making all other road user unpaid beta testers.
(But I’m such a terrible driver that this is safer!)

That shit should be illegal.

Yabbut…it would have to be cleaned daily, using de-ionized water. And dried off when it rains, and washed immeditely when it gets salt water on it. Or birds poop on it.

But how likely is any of that to happen to a bridge?

I’m one of those participating in that thread, and if you read my latest, you can see I’m not a fan of it (I haven’t paid for the feature and won’t be for now). We aren’t all “bragging” about it even though I do think it has potential. Also, I’m not a Musk fanboi.

His latest idea of reusing bridge spans is moronic. You couldn’t find one engineering firm sign off on any version of that plan.

Buncha woke eggheads. Who needs experts. I did my own research, and it feels right.

You know, if you just take some really large pontoons and just kind of… Floated them under the water and position them underneath the portions of the bridge that are still there maybe you could raise it up. Couple rolls of duct tape and some plywood, you’d have that bridge running and up again in a day. That’ll git’er done.

No, better idea. Let’s have the lowest bidding construction companies cut corners, so they can rebuild it in the cheapest fastest way possible. And steal federal funds at the same time. That’s a much better idea.

Elmo just thinks he’s a genius at everything doesn’t he?

I guess he’s part of a certain stable.

You are Red Green and I claim my five pounds.

I’m waiting for him to announce he’s installing a giant U magnet on his submarine. He’ll have the channel cleared by the end of the week.

That’s how it works for Wile E. Coyote.

Wile E. Coyote is extremely innovative, but I think the ACME corporation needs some recognition.

Pfft. ACME supplies parts. Wile E Coyote provides solutions.

That usually fail. Kinda like Elmo.

Yes, that is so Red Green.

The HMS Shag-at-Sea? I hear, like other submarines, it’s long and hard and full of … seamen.

(Yes, I should be, and am ashamed of myself. But given Elon’s proclivity for having as many possible female partners for impregnation purposes, and that it’s the Pit, I felt justified. I still feel a bit dirty though.)

He was planning to do that before the Great Pumpkinhead told him that magnets don’t work underwater.

Meanwhile, in Tesla-land, sales are down.

Tesla posted its first annual drop in sales since the first year of the pandemic, as increased electric vehicle competition from Chinese and Western automakers ate into demand.

CEO Elon Musk’s electric car company reported it built 433,000 vehicles but delivered only 387,000. That’s down from the 484,507 cars it delivered in the final three months of 2023, and it’s also down from the 422,875 vehicle sales in the first quarter of last year.

I some of that is certainly increased competition, but I suspect a significant part is Musk’s loss of reputation.

I wonder how many people, like me, have crossed Tesla off their shopping lists due to Musk’s sanity.

I did it for practical reasons: I’d hate to be behind the wheel when Elon sends out a firmware update that affects the brakes on my car, or when he decrees that everyone’s going to start self-driving right… NOW!

Yes, the article discusses the effects of competition, but that’s not the entire reason sales are down.

Pish posh, why certainly the drop in Tesla sales must be due to everyone buying Cybertrucks. Remember, buy more than one Cybertruck so you have a replacement ready when the first one rusts away. And an extra garage to store the backup Cybertruck outside of direct sunlight.

While an electric car isn’t in my immediate future purchases, should it be, I won’t be getting a Tesla.

My wife has a Tesla Model Y LR, and the lease term is up in a little over a month. She said she’s absolutely not getting another Tesla. Mostly 'cause Elon’s a nutbag, but also in part because her service experience has been poor and because she’s terrified of the cruise control after several phantom braking incidents.
