Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 2)

I didn’t read @nearwildheaven’s post as implying that she was mentally ill; only that he hoped that doctors would insist on the full evaluation that is de rigueur for patients requesting gender-affirming treatment.

If anyone missed the excellent Forbes article from this earlier post about the epic failure of the Cybertruck, do please read it. It’s fun and great Schadenfraude!

I also made a post in a Tesla thread in IMHO that was a bit of a hijack and would have been better here … the two points being: (a) maybe the Cybertruck wouldn’t have been such an abysmal failure if Elmo actually had done market research instead of crowing about how he’s so brilliant he never has to do any, and (b) in claiming “I do zero market research whatsoever” Elmo shows us that he, like, don’t even talk English so good.

Is it possible that this flaming Nazi dumbass isn’t as smart as he thinks he is?

I’m a woman, and I never said that transgendered people are, by default, mentally ill. However, people with, for instance, severe depression, need to have that depression treated before proceeding with any permanent body alterations. It’s actually not uncommon for people to change their minds about gender reassignment (or, for that matter, less extreme plastic surgery) when a health issue, physical or mental, is treated.

An extreme case: Ted Kaczynski inquired about gender reassignment at some point before he went into the forest. He thought that a change this drastic would improve his life; he was turned away and never pursued it further.

Yes, but getting gender reassignment surgery isn’t like ordering a burger at a fast food joint. You don’t just walk in and schedule a surgery. There are quite a few requirements first. Here is a page that might have some helpful information:

There are certain requirements that need to be fulfilled before surgery, including surgical referral letters from mental health professionals and clinicians who provide hormone therapy; insurance authorization, which is done by our office; and hair removal for people having vaginoplasty or phalloplasty.

(Bolding mine.)

Medical professionals are in the business of making people better. They’re not in the business of providing whatever medical procedure a person says they want to have. Because, as you say, a person may be motivated to make permanent alterations based on what might be a transitory desire brought about for unhealthy reasons, an extensive evaluation is done to try to determine if these procedures are going to be best for a patient’s long-term wellbeing.

Your concerns are valid but they are already accounted for by medical professionals.

Trust Donald to be utterly ignorant of the fact that gold is an exceptionally SOFT metal.

Just what you want to use as a shield!!!

Yes.

In more ways than you might realize. TFG’s remodeling of the Oval Office, and his explaining that the cherubs are pure gold because people have been trying to make gold paint look like real gold, but they can’t because gold is just so amazingly special that way has been making the news cycle.

Elon’s company putting the system together, “gold” might be appropriate, as it probably won’t effectively defend against anything.

Even if they could design an effective defence system there is no way its done within 4 years. Musk can just drain billions for design and testing confident that it will be canceled before ever entering service.

Even better if the parts they do design and test are somehow useful for whatever rocketry musk really wants for his own purposes.

Given Elmo’s losses at Twitter and the fact that Tesla sales and its stock value are both tanking, the one thing the “golden dome” will effectively defend is Elmo’s wealth.

Yup! Bolstered by all the data he is stealing in the guise of “finding waste” at DOGE which he can then monetize. That should counteract the losses he has suffered by driving both Tesla and Twitter into the ground.

“Cause if there’s one thing you need after a global thermonuclear war, it’s reusable boosters on your terminal defense antimissile systems.”

In retrospect, it looks like his purchase of Twitter was a good deal for him. He promised to try to use it to get Trump elected, and that might have made the critical difference. Even if it didn’t, his extremely public support of Trump is why he has the influence he has today.

I think you missed the point.

This project will be funded by trump’s regime for musk’s benefit. With no intention of actually producing a working missile shield. And also no intention of having a war. It’s a bit mysterious why trump is so motivated to give musk money, but here we are.

However many years later trump is deposed or dies, the project will be summarily cancelled by the next regime or administration as the case may be. Having produced nothing useful for DoD. But it will have subsidized musk’s wacky rocketry efforts the whole time. Which is all that musk wants out of it.

It’ll be a win for trump, a win for musk, and a boondoggle for all the taxpayers.

The occurrence of a war or fighting a war has nothing to do with any of it.

No, that was pretty much my point too.

I was imagining Musk hyping up some “feature” of the rocket portion of his system that was amazingly like something he wants to have done for SpaceX as well, only on the government’s dime. Never mind that such a “feature” is only something that SpaceX needs and not a requirement for the “golden dome” system to work.

Aha gotcha. Thanks for coming back w more.

The project will implement a new system called “General Reactive Interception Field Technology”, or at least that’s my understanding.

ISWYDT  !

I thought that was Boeing’s business model.

Nope, you clearly self-identified as a cunt.
