Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 2)

Then the swamp got cancer.

And when the tumor got big enough to break the surface, … it was Ron deSantis. Gee, there’s a name that has largely fallen from the news.

Who is Al Satellites, and why should we send him into orbit? Is he related to Al Shepards?

Al Satellites is innocent!

Here on Earth, yes. On the Moon? Not bloody likely. Back when colonies were a thing here on Earth, clearing land to plant and then expand farms is trivially easy. Building and expanding housing for a growing population is trivially easy. Founding the colony next to a source of fresh water that will support the growth of the colony until it’s a city is trivially easy. Trading with the home country, supporting a growing population, expanding into the wilderness when more land is needed for growth, all of those are trivially easy.

Now try doing any of those things on the Moon without requiring massive imports from Earth. Need more land for bigger hydroponics farms? Yeah, you’re going to need to put all of that under a dome. All those materials needed to make that dome? Where do you think they’re going to come from? Mining and manufacturing on the Moon? Where do you think all those mining and manufacturing machines and materials are going to come from?

A self-sustaining Lunar colony that can grow its own food to feed its existing population, produce enough power to keep everyone from freezing to death, and enough oxygen to keep the existing population is one thing, and by no means an easy thing to set up at that. A self-growing Lunar colony is frankly delusional with technology as it now stands.

I disagree - off topic, I know - but having done my fair share of Ket, this is untrue. It is a dissociative anesthetic. It tends to result in internal calmness, and mild hallucinations.

It is nothing like cocaine or amphetamines (which do do megalomania, omnipotence and invinciblity)… I’m fairly sure Musk does coke and speed, but focusing on the one relatively exotic drug he has admitted to use loses focus on his actual behavior.

Ket is widely used in Southern Africa as a shelf-stable anesthetic, so despite its reputation as “horse tranquilizer” it is very commonly used in rural hospitals here, particularly for children.

Heh. Jon Stewart was talking to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear this week on TDS and asked him jokingly if, when all the governors were together at their annual conference, there was one governor who, if they suddenly ran into them in an elevator, they would all go “Oh jeez no” under their breath. Without hesitation Beshear said “Ron DeSantis”.

Heh. that’s funny. Someone so odious that all ~25 other red-state governors would turn away in revulsion.

Shades of Ted Cruz and the rest of the Senate
