And even that only applies to a certain class of women, in a certain place and certain time. The vast majority of women throughout history have engaged in physical labor, mostly in agriculture.
Looks like Elmo’s been violating sanctions.
…Or is he sabotaging them?
Sabotaging the sanctions, or sabotaging the trucks?
Sabotaging Kadyrov by sending him a Cybertruck.
My money’s on that breaking down or getting stuck long before it gets near a frontline.
It’s an IED. It’ll catch fire when they least expect it.
Teslas are famous for phoning home. At least Elmo, if not Ukrainian Intelligence, will know where it is.
It is over 630 miles from Grozny to Donetsk in the heart of Donbas. I wonder how many superchargers there are along the way.
My money’s on it never even trying to get to a front line. Much like the dudes in the video with the Satanic beards and the fashionable ammo-belt vests, it’s all for show. The Cybertruck will spend its time cruising around Moscow Grozny attracting the проститутка (loosely, women of the street who usually come out at night in search of rubes and their rubles).
It’s Kadyrov’s cybertruck, so it reaching the front lines sort of implies Kadyrov going to the front lines, which is never going to happen, or him allowing his new shiny toy to be used by someone else. While that is also deeply in the realms of fantasy, it has the advantage of not being entirely impossible.
That’s the first time I’ve seen something make a machine gun seem less cool.
The front lines are at minimum 650 miles from Grozny – are there charging stations enough to get it there? And, what if the Russian burn down the power plant at Zaporizhzha?
More actually good Community Notes.
Trump’s claim that tariffs do not harm consumers is false.
Trump Administration tariffs cost each U.S. household about $1,300 in 2020, per the Congressional Budget Office. Yet their contribution to national revenues is minuscule.
I wonder if I need a new thread for these, since they aren’t really much to do with Musk. Just something that I find surprising happening since his takeover.
Well, the meta-topic is how objectively terrible Twitter has become under Musk’s misrule, but it may not really be on-point enough just to mock the deplorables unless Musk specifically gets involved (like approving, retweeting, etc.).
What I’m finding interesting is that it seems the deplorables are losing steam, not being able or willing to stop these Community Notes.
Usually Notes have to be much more neutral or even pro-right wing to get in. But lately I’ve occasionally seen right wing disinformation directly called out. (And, yes, the d is correct there.)
I am only seeing a proposed community note on that one at the moment, am I missing something?
I’m seeing a different note now:
Tariffs are almost always paid by those importing the goods. If they are a retailer they will be passed on to the ultimate consumer. https://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxvox/what-tariff-and-who-pays-it
It’s providing the facts without stating outright that Trump is saying something false, and without blaming the Trump administration directly for harming consumers. It’s definitely more neutral.
Yes. The ‘approved by Elmo’ note is abstract enough that few readers will realize it’s saying that Trump is wrong, and moreover that if Trump gets in and raises tariffs, US consumers will be paying much more for all the goods to which the tariffs are applied.
It’s worded in a way, in other words, that Trump will NOT understand is contradicting his views, and that thus will not offend Trump.
Thus good relations between the fascists can continue unabated.
I just discovered something bad. I approved the original note. But it had my approval recorded on the new note, for some reason. I changed that, as I think it uses more confusing language now,
If this is routine practice at X—and it may well be—it’s inherently deceptive. Notes that are changed in wording are likely changed in meaning, too (as we see with this one).
Cue our shock that Musk is doing something that distorts both a message, and the approval or (lack thereof) it generates.
