Now that Marion Z. Bradley's child raping has come out, does it change your desire to reread her?

Lamia, I thought the distinction MrDibble was making was clear. He was never saying “Oh, anyone who read any of the books should have instantly seen that there was something wrong with her.” He was saying, “Looking back now, based on what we know, there is some eyebrow-raising stuff in her books, and it’s disingenuous for people to deny it.”

I’ve never read her, so I have no opinion at all about whether there are signs and portents, or whether it would be nuts to deny it, but that’s a different argument than saying that he thought everyone should suss it out without external information.

Obviously, I hope both sides will correct me if I’m actually revealing, through signs and portents, that I’m stupid and can’t read.

Actually, what’s weird is that despite Card’s disgusting, psychotic view of gay people, the Alvin Maker stuff is disturbingly homoerotic comng from him. Every decent male “adores” Alvin, Mike Fink (tall-tale steamboat captain, who’s tougher than nails) follows Alvin around like a lovestruck puppy, the rest of Alvin’s band of brothers all constantly discuss Alvin and his wonderful body, beautiful eyes, magnetic charisma and sexxxxxxy ass (I made up that last one).

It’s just bizarre in general, and given Card’s view of gay people, it steps into surreal.

Myria, this guy is a known troll. It’s not worth responding to him since his gimmick is to just ask retarded, semi-off-topic questions and when you answer, ask more and more to derail the thread.

Nope, you got it exactly right.

I dunno, it’s par for the course for homophobes. How many anti-gay pols and preachers have been caught with their dick in the cookie jar, metaphorically speaking? It gets so it’s now my default assumption. Not actually thinking this about Card, specifically, but I wouldn’t find it weird, either.

Wow. What an asshole. Exactly like Scumpup, my ideological leanings are toward his viewpoints, but no rational person can have anything other than contempt for the way in which he is expressing it.

I’m just responding to the person who* started off *our little convo by calling my opinion “a very ugly thing” rather than actually ask me if I meant what she thought I meant. Then, despite my clarification, saw no reason to change that opinion. Let’s just say from posts here and elsewhere on the net, I’m pretty sick of MZB fangirls attacking anyone who dares question her work. Stick up the ass was putting it mildly. Apparently this human shitstain wrote one book that’s meant so much to lost children everywhere, they just can’t stand to see it besmirched even a little. Well, fuck the Goddess, and all her rapist-apologetic acolytes can go fuck a cactus.

…pompous, overbearing, moralistic, blowhard who thinks he is the world’s conscience…

Yeah, because that’s exactly what she said.

Actually, I think you’re attacking everyone who disagrees with you. Your last few posts put to rest any lingering doubts I might have had on that point. I don’t think I have anything left to say to you here except that I hope that you are able to find a more productive way to deal with your anger about Bradley’s crimes.

Well, yes, hence the quote marks.

Anyway, isn’t there some other pile-on you can join in on, troll? Is this the only one going?

Nope. see e.g. how much I’m not attacking Skald or others who were perfectly fine with saying “I’ll read what I want, thanks” and didn’t see the need to actually attack me, personally.

Why on Earth would I need to find a productive way of dealing? This is a Pit thread, it’s for venting.

And for handily highlighting that there are always those who would defend anything on the Internet, apparently. Sure, you’re not defending MZB or her legacy. Just her poor, poor fans who I’ve so viciously maligned. In your head. Don’t really see the difference, myself.

Good Christ, what a windbag you are. A self-righteous one, at that. It must be really tedious to have to listen to you bloviate and moralize in real life. Let us now all prepare ourselves for a gassy, hectoring multi-paragraph reply.

No need, already said all I need to to you, troll.

Ah, good. You admit to being a gassy, hectoring, self-righteous windbag. That’s the first step in recovery.

Just got back from Glastonbury; the hippy shops are still full of MZB. Bah.
