He was never saying “Oh, anyone who read any of the books should have instantly seen that there was something wrong with her.” He was saying, “Looking back now, based on what we know, there is some eyebrow-raising stuff in her books, and it’s disingenuous for people to deny it.”
I’ve never read her, so I have no opinion at all about whether there are signs and portents, or whether it would be nuts to deny it, but that’s a different argument than saying that he thought everyone should suss it out without external information.
