Well, the list implied (to me) that all the items on them had more or less equal weight, even taken in “isolation.” Not intended?
I thought Anderson Cooper was in a relationship.
Anyway-what is it with Scientology? Is it that they’re so weird that people assume Scientologists are gay or is it that they claim to be able to “cure” homosexuality. If it’s the latter and the people in question (ie Tom Cruise, John Travolta) really believe that it’s their engrams causing homosexual thoughts/behaviors then can anyone say that they are actually gay. IOW is it possible to be gay if you are not out to yourself or is it a prerequisite for you to acknowledge your sexuality before anybody else has the right to label you?
I think that sentence really covers anything else you could want to say without having to go into specifics.
Perhaps, but none in and of themselves have weight enough to tip the scale (except the picking up guys part).
Bear in mind this is neither a trial nor a scholarly discussion nor do most people on this board consider being gay anything bad in and of itself. This thread is gossip, pure and simple, the sort you’d find in break rooms or road trips about co-workers or cousins or neighbors. Since presumably I’m the only Doper who knows my co-workers or cousins or neighbors, celebrities are used because they’re the lingua franca of associates we all have in common- most of them worked hard to be in the public eye in fact- and to some of us it’s fun to speculate.
As to not having been married or involved in a relationship at 45, it doesn’t prove anything in and of itself, but it’s one of the chips for this Trivial Pursuit. It is unusual; the “urge to merge” is strong enough that Chang & Eng Bunker/convicted murderers/very old rich men and young women/etc. have found spouses, and it’s conspicuous when absent. It could be that some men like Michael McDonald are just unlucky or uninterested, but more likely there’s another reason. Again, not a value judgment, just gossip.
Now if were speculating on whether Michael McDonald is a serial killer or a drug addict, the standards of proof would be higher, but then there’d be less speculation and participation anyway since far more people are interested in whether celebrities are murdering meth heads than whether they’re gay.
This is the funniest thing I’ve read in months!
Outrage also mentioned Shepherd Smith who is a Fox News talking head. Working at Fox and gay,. who could have thunk it?
$7 million per year will buy a big chunk of anyone’s soul. His, “I don’t give a rat’s ass if it helps. We are America! We do not fucking torture!” comment probably caused him more of a problem than his closeted sexuality.
Henry Rollins and Paul Stanley are my two top picks.
The only thing that makes me think Rollins is straight is that he has repeatedly said he is and yet he’s extremely gay friendly. OtOH, Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin each denied being gay at least three times before joining the cock crew.
If Rollins was gay, or had even “experimented,” he would have brought it up in one of his spoken-word performances. Heck, he might have devoted one whole show to it.
I see what you did there.
Can we put politicians like Lindsey Graham and David Dreier in the celebrity group? They should come out. It is a poorly kept secret at best.
While I’m not familiar with her music, the gay news du jour is a Christian artist named Jennifer Knapp has come out. Anyone know her?
I’ve seen more than one account of him being linked with Benjamin Maisani.
The Conservative Repubs are eating their own. Now they want Lindsey Graham to admit that he is gay. Why is that?
Because, while Graham, while generally conservative, supports things like immigration reform, and the guy making the accusation, who’s the head of an anti-illegal immigration group, who’s opposed to immigration reform, is trying to smear him by accusing him of being gay.
Hey, if gay people don’t like it here they can go back to where they came from.
FWIW, related to the comment by Martini Enfield about being able to count the gay people he’s worked with “with the fingers of one hand”, I have to say that, at my work (I am a Patent Examiner for the European Patent Office in the branch in The Hague, Netherlands), it appears that you just have to stomp on the ground and gay co-workers pop up.
Given the prevalence of gays and lesbians within my circle of friends and acquaintances here at work, and assuming that the relative numbers are the same for the whole of the organization, I guesstimate that no less than 20%-25% of my co-workers at this office are gay.
For statistical purposes: I am straight and married.
Bravo!
And this is exactly why we don’t confuse personal experience with global reality, something you seem to be able to do but Martini Enfield isn’t in this situation. Whatever the actual number of exclusively gay people in the population (and this is so extremely hard to know due to the still very prevalent taboo about admitting to one’s self and others about being gay) the notion that gay people are upwardly massaging the numbers as part of some activist campaign is laughable.
