Now THATS what i call parenting

And I swear I can spell inaccurately, really…

I don’t know, I have to admit watching the video I laughed. Though I wouldn’t purposely bait my own kid to watch something like that, if he came across it on his own and I witnessed it, I’d have the same reaction.

It looks like the bitch set him up… the kids face is all wonder and amazement as he stares at the screen. He was probably told that it was a magic eye painting or something. Poor kid. I can only imagine the sleepless nights hes had since… I saw my first screamer about a year ago, and Ive been cautious of every email Ive opened since. Talk about a burnt child…

Consider me a heartless bastard. I agree that the actions of the person taping him are questionable, but I couldn’t help laughing at it. Just look at him, so focused, so engrossed, and then BAM! LOL. It becomes a little disturbing when he clings to the person’s leg and begins sobbing. Especially since the person taping it makes sure to get the camera right in the kid’s face.

You think that is good parenting? I think this is a helluva lot better.

(the video is work safe, but the links on that page are probably NSFW).

I’m all for sick pranks, but the kid seemed a little…young, for that kind of thing.

Personally, I’d wait until my kid was old enough to yell “Oh, you ASSHOLE!” rather than breaking down sobbing, before pulling that kind of thing.*

*Of course, these things are relative. There are probably 6 year olds who could handle it with good humor, and 19 year olds who’d get PTSD. It’s all about correctly judging character, I guess.

Yeesh! Poor kid. What’s really disturbing is the woman kept filming, and laughing, as her son cried. How old could that kid be? Six??
And I’ll bet that woman brags about what a wonderful parent she is, too.

HA!! Now THAT one’s funny!!!

Bolding mine.

Ummmmm…You laugh at this in later life? The family laughs at this in later life?

…wow

That was truly disgusting. Anybody who would pull such a stunt–or who thinks its funny–would automatically be on my “shitty parent” list. Wouldn’t let my kids play at their house. Wouldn’t trust my child with them in any way. Yeah, that was a real f@#$ing riot. Sick bastard.

Yeah, that’s a little off. I can completely see a parent thinking it would be an amusing thing to do. It’s not like the kid is a toddler - it seems reasonable to assume he can handle a “BOOOOO!”. But people have different tolerances for this kind of thing, and once the tyke starts having a breakdown it’s definitely time for hugs and soothing noises rather than more video.

God help him if he has siblings though - he’ll spend the rest of his childhood with them leaping out of closets and whatnot every ten seconds.

And there is no serene image or anything on that screamer - it’s the “can you guide the dot through the maze? Most people can’t make it past level 3…” one which went around a while back. It’s one of the more effective ones, so beware it if you haven’t met it yet.

Am I blind? I don’t see any video on the OP’s link…

This guy’s not much better

Sure do. Life’s too short to be constantly hung up on petty childhood grudges.

YMMV, of course.

It’s bizarre - when I saw my first one I jumped out of my skin and then laughed. But a few years ago my wife showed one for the first time to a friend who had come round for dinner.

This guy is in his thirties, is a highly paid business professional, and is super super-intelligent.

He fucking freaked. Screamed like a stuck pig, ran out of the room - we thought he was joking, but we found him curled up in the kitchen, crying and shaking, pure white in the face, and his hands were ice cold. After a while our cat came into the room and looked at him, and he freaked out again and had to be comforted by his wife, and didn’t calm down for about two hours, and then only after the application of several shots of booze and some marijuana.

Quite ruined the evening.

When I was a Boy Scout our Scout leaders used to do stuff when we were camping to scare the shit out of us too, which was always funny in retrospect. Maybe it wasn’t to some kids. It clearly gets some people differently, something these parents (there are a few) may not realise.

It’s about halfway down the page, you have to scroll down.

There’s a great video online somewhere of a brother scaring his brother to the point of crying.

He borrowed a friend’s broken Gamecube and swapped his brother’s out for it. When it didn’t work, the older brother(the prankster) took it and his brother outside. He then asked, “You know what I think of your Gamecube?”

He threw it up in the air, with it smashing into pieces when it hit the ground. His brother(about 12 years old) was crying and crying.

I found it funny, though cruel.

What an asshole. That’s child abuse, that’s what that is.

The only one that bugged me was the third one. Its obvious the kid is distressed the whole time, and it goes on far longer than it should. The others. . .meh. I thought they were funny.

Sweet Jesus, that’s worse than the first one!! “Aw, you’re not frightened.” WTF?? Does the Dad have Asperger’s or something?

Future serial killer in the making, right there.

Well, brothers are brothers. They’re supposed to be assholes.

Parents are a completely different story.

You had a different thought about the first one? :dubious:
