Just a few days ago, I sold something on eBay to a person in Ashtabula, Ohio. I also have been reading a biography of Andrew Carnegie. Today, I happened to be reading about the Homestead bloodshed. In preparation for the strike/lockout, Carnegie’s CEO (H.C. Frick) arranged to have the Pinkertons they hired stop temporarily in a staging ground before proceeding to Pittsburgh. This staging ground was located in none other than…Ashtabula, Ohio.
I have been to both The Frick and Ashtabula, Ohio. Another coincidence?
(Er, I am not a Pinkerton.)
I have been to 'Bula, Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon and the Frick. And I had a coworker with a dog named Pinkerton.
My home state of NH has a Pinkerton Academy, which has a stellar academic reputation. My humble high school had a team (including yours truly) on the local public TV quiz show; our second game was against Pinkerton. We were dead sure that would be all she wrote for our season.
We ended up creaming 'em by almost 300 points. Everyone walked out of that studio with a “WTF just happened in there?” look on their faces.
