Unless plans have changed since the Wizard 52 hint/spoiler sheet came out*, they’re going to give her her own title (it didn’t mention if it was going to be ongoing or mini - although they’ve been very smart about starting with minis lately.).
And they’ve been very mean about changing their plans when I make a comment about them a few months down the line!
I assume you are referring to Shilo Norman, the African-American Mister Miracle (and successor to Scott Free)? He’s an older character, who appeared in the late '80s/early '90s Mister Miracle series, and I believe goes back to the original series by Jack Kirby. All the others are recently-updated characters, but at least the “new” Mister Miracle has been around for a decade or two.
Damn…looks like they’re sure going “scorched earth” on that character, doesn’t it?
Too bad…I liked Cassie. And she had a bat costume (Comics Batman, and new Batwoman included, imho) that actually did look scary but practical.
Well, this Batwoman is hardly the first lesbian character in comics, after Gen 13’s Sarah Rainmaker; Hazel and Foxglove from Sandman and Death: The Time of Your Life; Detective Maggie Sawyer from Superman comics; Renee Montoya from Batman, Gotham Central, and 52; and even supervillainess girlfriends Scandal and Knockout from *Villains United * and Secret Six. Then of course you have Apollo and the Midnighter, the premiere gay couple in comics, in The Authority. This Batwoman thing is hardly newsworthy, nor is it some groundbreaking event.
And let us not forget Maggie Chascarrilla and Hopey Glass, comics’ most wonderful and enduring lesbian characters, from Love and Rockets, who predate this Batwoman by over two decades.
I don’t have high expectations for Batwoman. I fear that Batman is going to give her nowhere near as hard a time as he should (and hey, wasn’t one of the reasons for getting rid of Batgirl supposed to be that DC thought Bat’s supporting cast was too big?).
