Batwoman Returns!

As a lesbian?

What’s next?
I’ve always been curious about the Batman and Robin relationship!

Already discussed and slipped to the second page. NPR: Batgirl is a Lesbian.

As a big comic geek and a strong supporter of increasing diversity among the heroes, I’m getting sick of this story. I mean, I’m glad DC is getting publicity out of this, but I find the tone bothersome.

There have been openly gay superheroes, admittedly only a handful, for quite some time now. Hell, Batwoman’s girlfriend is already an established character (if you saw the 1990’s Batman: The Animated Series, you know her, she’s the Latina cop partnered with the fat slob cop). This isn’t really big news. I’m also distressed by the insinuation some of these stories have that presenting gay characters is some kind of gag or fad. Can’t it just be an effort to make comics more inclusive? Or to portray heroes other than the classic square-jawed hertero white men that dominate the genre?

I’m not getting a whole lot of that feeling from the articles…

I AM getting a lot of it from the fans, though, which drives me even more batshit than it would if I was seeing it in the articles.

Although, there is a certain amusement seeing the people bitching about it because ‘they’re not doing this for diversity, it’s because they want to sell it to men’ while other side is bitching about it being ‘sick’ putting a lesbian in an all-ages book.

Yeppers. Since there’s already a thread for this, I’ll close this one down.
