I’d be perfectly willing to be outraged by the NRA seeking to suppress free speech. I’d even readily believe in examples of that without taking due care to ensure they’re true, I’m that much of a reactionary.

Yeah, this thread is a failure. Of all the things to pit the NRA for–their constant use of violent metaphor, their dishonest manipulation of statistics, their cynical profiteering off homicide, and their incredibly shitty analogies between the first and second amendments–this is not among them.
Like I said, you don’t have to be a moron so why not try it? I’m sure plenty of NRA members like free speech. There’s plenty of “Libtards” who would be thrilled with hate speech laws that limited the 1st amendment.
I for one doubt the NRA seriously wants the media to stop reporting details of school shootings because as long as the media continues reporting details of school shootings, the NRA will have something other than gun culture to blame for school shootings.
I’ve been an NRA member for 20 years and also value the other amendments, especially the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th and 10th. I would join the ACLU if it would fight to protect the 2nd amendment like it does the others.
I think a free press is invaluable.

After all, the NRA is on record successfully lobbying to restrict the 1st Amendment. Why else can’t the CDC investigate the connection between guns and gun deaths? Is Swift on record ever having eaten a baby?
